Is Education Ever Really Over?

Is an education ever really over? Or is it a journey that we are always embarking on? Socrates once said that to know, is to know that we know nothing, and therefore it is fair to say that a person can always be searching out new knowledge because we can't ever know everything that there is to know. Just because we finish college or high school doesn't mean that we need to stop learning and expanding upon what we know.

Life never stops teaching us different lessons and offering us different experiences, there is always something new to venture out to see, or a new area of knowledge for us to explore and broaden our minds. An education isn't something that always requires a classroom and a teacher, because learning new things and developing new skills is an adventure that can be approached in a myriad of different ways.

An education is something that we can create for ourselves and there are many tools out there that can help us to do it. A growing number of universities are offering free classes online, including Stanford, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Princeton University, and many others.

Aside from free courses at these many schools, there are also endless areas to look for online that provide a wide variety of new information that you can choose to search out. From free academic journals to documentaries, blogs, news articles, and much more, there really is no end to what you can learn with online tools.

Some have even gone so far as to say that one cannot know every little detail about any area of knowledge, could this be true? Some people will spend years studying a certain area of knowledge and yet still find that there is much more that they still don't know yet. Continuing with learning is an extension of our sense of adventure and a result of our natural curiosity. Our life would quickly become very boring if we ever lost our zest to learn new things and to seek out new experiences.

Curiosity is commonly said to be one of the most important characteristics of having a vigorous intellect. If we are constantly curious about new things then we will be constantly searching out new information to try and understand everything around us. Our education is never really over or complete until we die, because we will (hopefully) always be learning something new with the world constantly changing.
