Panama Blog #2 - The People Here - A rough Guide - My Experiences and Perspective here...
Wow ! Your in Panama or want come :
Interacting with Panamanians has been called many things, You will form your own opinions in time.
Right now is my opinion time :-) yours to follow I hope ?
My best overall description for Panamanian's would be Youthful in attitude
Teenagers if you will, For example: Just relate to most teenagers you know, And all the descriptive words you can think of to describe them.
Mine being: Carefree, easy going, curious, adaptive & playful PLUS stubborn & self centered.
And if they like you: Extremely generous, Self conscious & Helpful.
When dealing with Teenager's/Panamanian's always be aware and remember These rules of interaction
When you were young and someone got on your case or pissed you off, How did you react ?
Probably complete indifference, If still listening. To completely tuning them out & maybe for fun escalating the behavior that started the issue. LOL, Come on you know you did :-)
So If you get angry, demanding or any kind of shitty with a Panamanian, Expect any or all of the above !
In fact, even if you behave perfectly, Don't expect anything other, and appreciate pleasant interactions.Because...
When you visit the jungle, you adapt to it, It does not adapt to you.
Tourists/visitors or even Immigrants tend to be Almost universally loathed even hated, But for the most part tolerated, Maybe economic reasons Etc... ( to large a scope for here ).
Lets just say, Failure to adapt to local norms. Not you ! ( that's why your here :-)
But maybe Millions of people that beat you here. caused this phenomena.
So while here, Please just try to observe and enjoy the Sights, sounds & interactions in this wonderful Country & People.
Knowing right now, you will experience outrageous sights, sounds, smells & behaviors that probably won't adversely affect you much in the long run If you don't try to stop or otherwise change it.
In Fact : If you don't find a endless array of things you would change here, If you could ( and you can't ) You're more than welcome to come and stay with me :-)

I've been there a few times over the years, Bocas is a different world altogether. A little more touristy than I lean toward, but tourists are money and...you read my blog :-) I just about took over a sailing tours place there, on Isla Colon, But my wife had a fit and cancelled the adventure.
I took tours to Coiba for a couple years " pure heaven " fishing,surfing and scuba. glad to make your acquaintance. thanks for the reply, now following and voting :-)
