Verily, it is obvious in our society today that very few people are conscious of their conscience. That is, some are oblivion of thier state.
Meanwhile, during the era of common law (the English adopted law for other cities) the chancery court was the keeper of conscience. Now, the supreme being is the keeper of conscience but being conscious makes us being oblivious of our consciousness.
Consciously unaware just may be the ultimate state of being. :D
