PATRON SAINT OF THE DAY: For Coin Collectors
On 1 December, the Church celebrates Saint Eligius.
Born in 588 in France, Eligius was a goldsmith by trade and found favor at the royal court through his bas relief work. Due to this, the king made him master of the royal mint in Marseilles.
After the king’s death, Eligius was made chief councillor to the throne. He used his influence to found monasteries and distribute alma to the poor, eventually becoming ordained a priest and consecrated a bishop.
