How to understand The Little Prince

A random post about my favourite book. Here's my theory about why people didn't understand the message or the story that much.

When I was in 10th grade, we discussed a part of this (the journey around the Earth part) and also learned about the author's bio.

The thing is I don't usually get attached or interested about the stories that we learn in school but this one just made my brain cells go bonkers. It was enough reason for me to do some research on the book and the author.

This is how it landed on my favourite list and the main reason why you're going to love the book as well:

1. Read the story and be aware that every single character, situation and settings are symbols of something bigger than the childlike illustrations.

2. Take a moment to learn about Antoine De Saint-Exupery's (the author) life. This is where all the characters, situations and settings really take shape.

3. The author's real life and The Little Prince are connected. Once you've managed to do the first and second steps, magic will happen before your eyes. Absolutely like fireworks cracking when you reflip through the childlike illustrations.

4. The message is not that hidden like you're thinking. It is already on the surface, waiting be scattered for adults and children alike.

Here's the thing though: there's only one thing that seemed off about this book. It's that it's categorized as a children's book.

I absolutely, positively, a-hundred-percent disagree on this one.

Children I know who read this book didn't understand what the story was saying. Most cases I encountered resulted to boredom and complexity.

Trust me, even young adults who have read the book thought the same. Even my classmates in 10th grade couldn't understand what Antoine was pointing out.

My final point before ending this post is to learn to understand it. This is the only step on how to learn to love it. And when you did, trust me, you'll never look at life the way you did again. Ever.
