Prambanan #architecturalphotography

Here is my Wednesday's contribution to @juliank's @photocontests under the category #architecturalphotography.

The camera used here was Nikon D5000.

That's me among one of the ruins of Prambanan. This is another UNESCO Heritage that you can find in Central Java, Indonesia. Compared to Borobudur, both dates back to 8th to 10th century. While Borobudur is a Buddhist temple, Prambanan is a Hindu temple. Here in this site rises collections of huge Hindu temples. They were such decorated to depict illustrations of Ramayana and also the three great Hindu divinities.

Just compare me to that one side of the temple. You can imagine the scale of the buildings. The highest temple among the collection towers up to 47 meters. Locals call this Rora Jonggrang Temple, translated to English as "slender virgin."

Walking in and around these temples is like walking within a story. Each stone carvings is like telling a different story. They have stood the age and time after all these centuries.

The difference with this and Borobudur is that you although you have to wear a sarong in Prambanan, it is only used in the main complex. During our visit, restorations were taking place. In one temple, we have to wear safety hats because workers are currently working on that temple and better be safe not to be hit by falling debris.

We went to Central Java and Yogyakarta just for these two temples. It's surreal walking along these unbelievable structures that people from the past and present have trod. I have high admiration and respect to these temples.
