Throwing of Trash in Rivers Should Be Stopped
It was a hot afternoon and we're walking in Guibang at Pantal part of Dagupan City when these trash (in the photo below) appeared before my eyes. I feel bad seeing them as it reflects how sanitation was imposed in the area. Of course, not all of those trash came from one area. Some may have been flowed by the river from other places. Nevertheless, it is an indication that everyone should stop throwing junks in rivers.
This is a sign of abuse by humans to the environment. Yet, a lot of people are not aware of its consequences. Aside from the toxic materials that can affect the fishes people eat and the disgusting view, it can be disastrous. Imagine when it rains for a week, the area will likely be drowned. In fact, the place was covered by water before we went there due to high tide. It's a daily phenomenon in the area and some nearby places when water reaches the land area during high tide.
So what can people do to stop flooding?
Of course, throwing of trash in rivers should be stopped. People near the rivers should have their trash bin (segregated) instead of throwing in rivers. That way, it can avoid congestion of foreign materials in rivers.
Local government shoudl fix waste disposal management. Admit it or not, it is one of the problems in towns and cities.
Rehabilitate the rivers that are being abused. There are some groups and NGOs which initiated such causes, and they need support from people.
Dredging the rivers. There are garbages that might have been buried deep in the water. By dredging, it can remove the waste materials, deepen the river, and flood will be avoided.
Rivers are necessary because they play a big part for our survival. That's why we need to take care of them and stop the abuse, which starts from humans.
