Pilgrims on the Way of Saint James (Vairão, Portugal)

Here is my submission for Week #26 of the contest People Photography by Worldcapture.

When I go for a walk near my home, I always encounter pilgrims travelling along the Way of Saint James (Caminho de Santiago). There are many starting points, but most people go from Porto, in Portugal, to Santiago de Compostela, in Spain.

There are many lone travelers but others prefer to travel in a small group. There are some harsh parts of the way, with no sidewalks, which is dangerous because these are busy roads, with lots of traffic.

On the other side, you'll find magnificent views and very picturesque little towns along the way...

On this particular day, I've walked along the Way of Saint James for about 2 hours... and later on the afternoon, I turned around to get back home. One day I might travel the whole way myself. Who knows?

Not bad
Its nice to have an idea that way when the opportunity arises you are ready

Thanks. It's a big walk, which requires at least 10 days to get to the destination.

Ten days wow nice vacation. I always wanted to walk the application trail. Well a horse trip anyway.
I have always liked camping on a lake doing some fishing, campfire 🔥

Keep sharing

Yep. It's difficult to schedule that kind of vacation nowadays. Companies don't like to see their employees very happy for too long, they might not return. 😂

Hahaha
4 years ago you could not even think of a vacation. Getting better, ut still way to many people that need help . A i am talking all aspects of life they can use some help

@trincowski oh man... I so badly want to come walk the Camino Santiago one day.. Hubby said I could this year but I felt it too much and too soon after our big island move. Perhaps next year. Thanks for sharing. 🙏😊

I am thinking about it... it's either that or going through Spain by train, with no fixed destination. 410€ for 10 long distance train rides, doesn't seem like a bad deal. 😂

Great shot! My sister actually did that whole way, but started from Santiago in Spain. Amazing trip :)

Santiago is usually the destination... Where did she end up in?

Thanks for stopping by!

I answered you a litle quick. It must have been Santiago where she ended, because I remember she startet in France and startet her journey crossing the the border to Spain. It is now 8 or 9 year sinnce she did this. I think she said it took her between 5-6 weeks. Saw her photoes....

Incredible! Was she traveling alone?

Yes. At least she startet out alone, but met people on the way . Sometimes they would be walking together for a couple of days, then they split and she met some others. I don't remember the distance, but I think she said she walked 25-30 kilometers per day. I was impressed!

Perfect shot , people , say , road, flowers ! Nice Nice nice

Thanks for your visit!

Do you believe in God?

Not really... but this is a good experience whether you believe or not. 😊

We have Velikoretsky religious procession. The people, the pilgrims coming from Kirov to the settlement Velikoretskoye a few days. There is a sacred ceremony, swimming in the river and pilgrims come back.
Length — 150 km (90 km from the city of Kirov to the village of Velikoretsky and 60 km back).
This religious procession lasts 5 days: from June 3 to June 8
In 2018, a column of 70,000 people left Kirov for Velikoretsky, and about 100,000 people took part in the celebrations on the Velikaya river

I had never heard of that pilgrimage. Thanks a lot for the interesting information, @apnigrich!
