Visual Illusions - Peoplephotography by worldcapture Week #18
Found some nice photos of a salt flat that I visited last year, in Turkey. And the contrast between the people and the landscape seemd great to submit to this contest by @worldcapture!
The cool thing about salt flats is that if they have a tiny amount of water, as in this case, the light reflection blurrs the horizon, giving an awesome illusion of continuity. Not that apparent on the first photo, but perfectly clear on this one:

The second one does show the illusion/mirage a lot better. I have always enjoyed the atmospheric mirages. In Alaska on a real clear night or clear day you can quite often see what appear to be city lights or mountains where there should be none just floating in the sky. Mostly caused by temperature inversions where we have a lot colder air at the surface and then a very warm layer just above, with another cold layer above it.
When I lived way way out in the tundra it was a real trip to see.
I can only imagine! You must had incredible landscapes there!
