The second one does show the illusion/mirage a lot better. I have always enjoyed the atmospheric mirages. In Alaska on a real clear night or clear day you can quite often see what appear to be city lights or mountains where there should be none just floating in the sky. Mostly caused by temperature inversions where we have a lot colder air at the surface and then a very warm layer just above, with another cold layer above it.

When I lived way way out in the tundra it was a real trip to see.
