Second Creative Writing Challenge: Task #4 - Hristo's Lesson

in #payitforward7 years ago

Hristo sat on his heels, picking through the pile of computer parts, just one of many such piles scattered around the yard. Precious metals had become the real money maker and the children needed to know what they were looking for and how to identify the various types. He quickly grabbed a handful of different pieces of metal and walked back to the group of 6 children. Ranging in age from 5 to 14 the group listened carefully as Hristo identified each piece in his hand.

"This is imporntant. Now look. This is titanium, see? See the color? Listen." He taps the metal with a small glass rod. "You hear? That is the sound of titanium. Feel. Feel the metal."

Each piece continued like the prior, look, listen, feel, remember. Each child attempted to absorb the on rush of information, taking time with the different metals to feel them and remember them.

"Do not worry, you are learning. Just try it, listen to the sound. You will remember over time." Hristo encouraged the cildren as they investigated the piles of scrap around them.

The children ocassionally brought items to him and questioned if their assessment was correct. Each child walked away assured that whether right or wrong, they were learning hands on, in their own way. The numbers of children remained etched into his mind, each face framed with little notes under each, their stories written on the walls.

"Alright, gather close." Hristo called to the children in the yard. "It is almost time to go."

The children came in close and gathered in a group in front of him. The afternoon light shone on his face as he talked and the children paid rapt attention.

"We must work to take care of the earth that has given us life. The work that we do to clean and recycle helps not only ourselves, but those around us. By helping others, helping the earth, we give of ourselves for the greater good." Hristo's voice calm but insistent he continued. "All people can make a difference and you are well on your way. Come children, let's return home, there are chores to be done. Enough lessons for now."

This was so sweet. Really shows Hristo as a teacher and role model.

If he has taken in that many kids, he is more than that. That kind of dedication to humanity deserves saint hood. Everyone makes mistakes and has a past, but to give that many children an opportunity... That is truly astounding. Many people in this world are completely overlooked when they provide such an incredible service to so many. This is a chance for us to point out and bring light to one such person.

Exactly! These heroes are always there in the background, and they don't ask for fame. I can only imagine what it would take to make your life's goal truly serving others.

Very sweet story indeed @flemingfarm! Thank you! I've seen where they work during the day - it was a huge field full of remains of building materials. It was a hot summer day they gave me a good lesson on devotion and hard manual work. Hristo already knows that something is happening, however he's not aware of the results. I think it will be a nice surprise for him and the boys isn't it? <3

Wonderful twine this it's truly valuable and spectacular retain USA all submitted together with recent enhancements

I like the thrust of the lesson here, the snapshot about respecting the earth in the effort to recycle and reuse. Good story!

Thanks. Feels likely close to what he has done given he has helped so many kids. I would highly assume he teaches them many things.
