Creating Value From Social Media with Patron

Social media is a big deal these days. It goes way beyond trailing your favourite celebrities every move, but also being kept in the know of the latest gossips, scandals, trending topics as well as the "reigning gear". This is where social influencers come in. This pseudo-celebrity category does a pivotal job that many don't spot at first. Think popular commentators on Twitter with their witty punchlines and jabs at people they don't like, or bloggers that are known to drop controversial statements. One could argue they are more relatable to the general population than celebrities.

Some people who join social media with a solid niche tend to grow a large following over time. You could be a really funny guy, a math whiz, a lady that shares life hacks, or a tailor who's always sharing different fabrics and print designs. You could even be a Slay Queen taking pictures in exotic places or as the popular Nigerian slang goes, a Sweet Boy always balling with choice food, wine, and cars. As long as you generate a large following, you can be a social influencer.

The best thing about being a social media influencer? It's relatively easy to grow on the Social Networking Service(SNS). Even people without a niche can amass a large following in a short while by using the #FollowBack strategy.
So you have a couple thousand followers, now what?
Many of us would like to make money off anything or any skill that we have. So how can we monetize our followers? Advertising.

INTRODUCING PATRON

Patron is a Social Influence Sharing Platform that connects Sponsors (such as Companies) to Hosts (Influencers) in order to promote/market goods and services to the Users (fans or followers). In other words, Patron is the platform for supporting the influencers’ market.

Patron uses a very simple and straightforward model to provide cost-effective advertising to Sponsors.

User Case Scenario

Andre Gray is a British football lover and regularly posts about his workouts and drills. He has a sizeable following of 62000 subscribers. XYZ Corp is a sportswear company that is looking to advertise their new heat conserving body suit. They are targeting geographical zones that experience very cold mornings but have a lot of sport-oriented people.
Their first attempt to market the gear was to approach a famous Sprinter who ran in the 2016 Olympics and make an advert video with him which was posted on his Instagram page. This celebrity had 4 million followers. While an online poll showed 95% of viewers liked the video, XYZ Corp only sold about 7000 units of the sportswear.
Using Patron, XYZ Corp is connected to Andre Gray, and after He posts his own video about the sportswear, 31000 units are sold within a month.

As you can see, the conversion rate using Andre Gray is 50% because all his followers are people who actually need the product and share the same fitness and workout passion with him. This is massive compared to the 0.175% the celebrity advert was able to achieve.

So what do we learn from this?
When it comes to advertising consumer products, most people don't really pay attention to celebrities. Why? because we see them as people who have too much money. If they are wearing a new watch, we assume it's too expensive for us to afford. If they go on a resort trip, we assume it's going to cost us an arm and a leg.
Influencers, on the other hand, are like the popular handy neighbor down the street. If he/she tells you a face-cream is good, you assume they tried it and got great results.

HOW DOES PATRON WORK?

Patron recognizes 3 different sets of people on the internet.

  • The Host (Influencers);
  • The Guests (Sponsors, Companies);
  • The Fans (followers).
    Using [Patron, the Sponsors can connect with competent Influencers and agree on a contract to promote a product for a particular period of time for a certain price. The Sponsors can select Influencers based on factors such as demographic, cost, capability. The influencers then basically become brand ambassadors for the Sponsors.

PATRON INFLUENCER RATING

Patron rates influencers on its platform based on

  • Number of Followers (The fan base of the influence that the Sponsor will get access to);
  • Engagement Level (The frequency of interaction between the Influencer and his/her followers);
  • Reputation (rating of the influencer by their followers).

These rankings and ratings provide "value transparency" and help sponsors to select Influencers that will best achieve their targets.

PATRON MARKET SCHEME

The core Functions of PATRON are: 1. Sharing the influencer's SNS delivery frame at the spot. (Pay every time). 2. Share an Influencer exclusively for several months (Pay monthly). 3. Acquire favorite influencers and monopolize (annual contract).

The Patron platform provides a search mechanism for Sponsors to look for influencers around the world and view their rankings for each genre and field for each SNS. Sponsors can then message and communicate with influencers. Both parties can discuss the products to be promoted and the mode/frequency of payment. Patron also provides templates for Sponsors to stipulate terms and conditions for collaboration with the influencers.

Patron is currently working on their mobile app to streamline performances and communications between Sponsors and Influencers.

PAT TOKEN

The PAT token is the standard custom cryptocurrency of the Patron ecosystem. PAT is an ERC-20 Token based on the Ethereum blockchain. PAT powers all the activities and operations on Patron. PAT can be used by all the entities in the Patron ecosystem. Sponsors will spend PAT to recruit influencers.
Influencers can tip their fans or use PAT as a reward mechanism for their followers.
Fans can also upvote the content the influencers share. This will increase the influencers reputation and proportionally increase their appeal to Sponsors.

The Patron team has been hard at work to bring this innovative project to full capacity. They released the alpha version of their platform in 2017, conducted token sale early this 2018(January - March) and plan to release the Patron app in February 2019.

CONCLUSION

Patron is a unique project that will benefit all parties involved. The Sponsors will get their money' worth via effective promotion. The Influencers get to create value from their amassed follower base and the followers will get premium and quality options for their purchasing power. It's a win-win-win ecosystem.
