Geisha (芸者) (/ˈɡeɪʃə/; Japanese: [ɡeːɕa]),[1][2] geiko (芸子), or geigi (芸妓) are Japanese women who entertain through performing the ancient traditions of art, dance and singing, and are distinctively characterized by traditional costumes and makeup.
Contrary to popular belief, geisha are not the equivalent of a prostitute.

Thank you for posting this. A lot of people tend to assume that they are prostitutes when they are actually entertainers. I watched a Geisha documentary yesterday and they are very classic entertainers. The way they greet and bow looks so respectful and they dance gracefully.
So beautiful indeed... As an artist sometimes I feel like I need to prostitute myself though... :S
