According to CNN interview right now, cops found him hiding under a table while his gun not in his "immediate vicinity".
My guess is, he was trying to blend in.
Another case where everyone knew he was going to do it and even alerted the authorities who did nothing.
So they will call to take away guns from law abiding sane people. He used a shotgun so they will call for a ban on rifles.
