[Are you your kid’s maid? Pampered much?]

Are you the type of parent who is willing to do anything for your kids?
Do their laundry? Do their dishes?
Cleaning up their toys? While they are busy watching the TV or youtube? Even when they are already reach 20’s?

When the restaurant have no air conditioning, they start to whine about the heat. Then, look for a “better” restaurant with air-conditioning.
When the food cooked doesn’t taste according to their standards, they start to whine and you quickly order something else or cook something else for them?

Heh, Guilty-as-charged.

Well, I am a working mom. I do not get to spend time with my kids as much. So, I get too worried that if I make them to do things that they don’t like, I will make them love me less. I want them to love me so I start by giving them whatever they want, not need. Subconsciously, I am trying to buy their love by giving them anything they want. The reality and struggle of being a working mom.

If you are agreeing to this, perhaps it will not be too late for us to change.

I mean, do you want your kids end up depends too much on you and your spouse when they become adults? Now, I know why some adult is still staying with their parents house. Because they depended on their parents too much!

Definitely you do not want your kids to grow up and for them not being able to face or solve problems or issues that they have, no matter how small. Usually, these kids will unable to face rejections in life, and if life gets tougher, they will just turn back to the safety of their parents, knowing that their parents will cover their asses with whatever problems they are facing.

Oh, parent’s love knows no bound.

Parents now are so pressured by social acceptance, being it with who has the brightest kid, how fast your kid can read, how fast your kid can start counting, girls must join ballet classes, boys must join taekwondo classes, piano classes, the list is endless.

But we parents, often forget to teach and prepare your kids with survival kit to face with daily life struggles and difficult situations. When they are always protected under the cocoon too long, and when they finally go out into the world themselves, no matter how good of a grade they have at school. They will fail, fail to be a person, fail to be a human, because they don’t know how to even fold clothes. Life skills, it is an easy skill to master if we start it early in their life.

That is why, if you noticed, all of the successful people in the world, no matter if they are famous actor or famous singer or religious leader or leader of a country, and if you read their life biography, you will realize that behind all that 1% success, 99% of it, lies the struggles and failures.

There will come a time where your kids will grow up (yes, they do and they grow up very fast!)
And they will want to lead a life of their own. If we really love them, we have to get them ready for life-skills, for them to be fully independent from us and also financially. These are the most important skills because if they have this, no matter how bad they do in the exams, they will definitely geared up and ready to face the world out there.

So, gentle mama now became sergeant mama-with a twist. It is all about BALANCE.
