Evil Santa....
This year (well, technically last year...) was probably the first year that our youngest daughter was introduced properly to the concept of Santa at Christmas time. She did have Santa presents in the previous years... but the concept of Santa delivering them wasn't really that well understood...
This year, she really got on board with the Dutch Sinterklaas idea... and the Pieten as well! She loved putting out her shoes for the attempt to try score some pre-Pakjesavond loot in the weeks beforehand. This included singing a little song to the Pieten to ask them to throw something in her shoes...
So, it was a bit weird for her to be a bit scared of the concept of the Anglo Santa Klaus... after all, they pretty much are the same. Old guys dressed in red dropping of presents... but Sinterklaas is a Saint and with a much healthy body build.
Perhaps it was the idea that Sinterklaas, via the helper Piets drops off the presents in the evening of the 5th of December on the front step of the house. Meanwhile, Santa airdrops in through the chimney in the dead of night and leaves presents on the INSIDE of the house! Yeah, I can see how that would be a bit scary....
Anyway, in the lead up to Christmas... it was quite funny to hear her keep saying that she was scared of Santa... or perhaps she was scared that she was on the naughty list? Even though her sister tried to tell her that there was nothing to worry about and that there would probably be presents from Santa... it was a bit of a nightly ritual for her to tell us that she was scared that Santa would come in the middle of the night...
Eventually, Christmas went and passed without a complete breakdown... and she was very happy for her Santa presents... but now Santa has morphed into a catch-all blame tool. If something goes missing, it was Santa that took it... if there is a mess, Santa did it...
... this is going to be an interesting month ahead... I'm pretty damn sure that Santa hasn't done any of these things, after all, after a very busy workload at the end of December, he needs to take a vacation for the rest of the year... which means that he doesn't have the time or will to pinch random stuff from our house.. or just to make a mess!

Technically speaking Santa also needs to restock his stuff to give out next Christmas... So we don't know...
But I think next time you can just tell her about the Christmas elves :P I'm not very sure if they exists (even in stories, some has them but most not I think) but it's Christmas-related so what can be impossible anyway :^) Maybe she'll start to shift the blame onto them lol.
