A few simple ideas to recover your Steemit account after community disagreement

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

Before I start...

  • This is directed to one person; I won't name that person in the hopes of minimizing the tension level. HOWEVER, this advice can be used by anyone who has gotten on the wrong side of a whale.
  • There are some whales that never let go; this advice is only partially useful in that situation.

Whatever happened, you got pissed off

It could be that the value of STEEM has you angry, or the normal back and forth disagreement with other humans went to extremes (which happens outside of Steemit as part of normal human behavior).

In any case, you went overboard and got into a lock-down, drag-out fight with a Steemer that holds more SP and Rep than you...or worse, you have aggravated MORE than one Steemer. Of course, there is also the possibility that you only offended a whale with a taste for extended vengeance.

Your Rep goes down every time you post, and none of your posts gets any STEEM reward, no matter how many people vote for it. Making the situation worse for you, other Steemers stop voting for you because they don't want to lose the curation those flags are costing your posts.

We'll call this individual or group of people the Punisher in this post.

It really doesn't matter what the value of STEEM is (unless you invested heavily in STEEM with cash), because as that value rises, the Punisher's ability to flag you increases as well.

What do?

  • The FIRST thing you do is to stop exacerbating the situation. STOP insulting the folks you have a disagreement with...stop flagging them...stop complaining about them. If you can't engage with them without arguing with them, then stop that too (depending on the level of hostility, this can be a temporary cessation of engagement).

  • Then you chill out and calm down. I know, easier said than done. Take some time to reevaluate the situation from a calmer perspective. I've been wrong more times than I would like to be sure, and ONLY stepping back and double-checking has allowed me to see that. If you are steadily on ANY kind of mood alteration drugs, including booze, put them down for a while.

  • THINK about whether you should apologize. I do not say apologize w/o question. You may have been too exuberant in arguing a question that you were right in, or you may have allowed personal insults (or what you think are personal insults), to get the best of you and allowed anger to control your discourse. Some people do think apologizing is a sign of weakness...this could be you OR it could be the Punisher; you can look back over previous posts and comments of theirs and maybe see if there is a pattern of behavior to guide your decision.

  • After you do those these things, then engage one possible last time in a calm manner, and request that the matter be dropped.

I apologize for the level of hostility we have engaged in, and I accept responsibility for my part in it. (This is optional). I would like to continue discussing the issue/ I think we should agree to disagree on this point/You were correct in X. (Choose wisely). Would you consider lifting the flags if I do X? (again, optional depending on what value you found in the Punisher's arguments OR if you just want to move on, depending on your level of obstinacy).

Obviously, you modify this statement according to your personality and the situation, but whatever you do, keep it short and courteous.

Nope, they are assholes

It can, and does happen. Your appeal is rejected, mocked, and even used as further fuel on the fire. It doesn't even matter that you were right.

Let me put it this way...it is possible for you to stroll into a crosswalk with the lights on your side, and have a drunk driving a one ton truck flatten you despite you being in the right...that happens, too

Let it go. Period. End of Story.

Moving on to other options

  • Keep your account; hope for the storm to blow over - Steem Basic Income

I have an ulterior motive in suggesting this option...I have a significant number of SBI shares myself, and this would help me out as well ;>

This post, Wow, that was weird...Ending Powerdown, reinvesting in @steembasicincome, explains my reasons for investing in Steemit by investing in SBI.

Check out @steembasicincome. Depending on your level of investment, you may get returns out valuing the flags you are getting. The other side of this is that your investment accumulates if you don't post, so you may wait and build up a balance while hoping that your Punisher gives up his flag game.

  • Keep your account; hope for the storm to blow over - Invest in a bidbot scheme

First said, IF this beef started due to arguments over bidbots, OR IF you are simply opposed to bidbots, you may not want to use this option

There is @minnowbooster whic has provided me with decent returns before I changed my mind about the long term effects of bidbots. I won't use them myself, but I understand why others do, and I won't criticize others for doing so!

A NON bidot option would be @accelerator, which provides a weekly income to SP delegators.

Also, @minnowbooster provides a framework of support for a variety of other programs that support new Steemers through their Palnet programs (see below).

  • Keep your account; hope for the storm to blow over - Delegate to worthy communities or support projects

One example would be P.A.L.Net (Peace, Abundance, and Liberty). Their Discord will give you pointers...
An example of one support project that P.A.L runs is the @msp-shanehug bot

Another example of such projects is @pifc.

There is also the possibility of supporting a community like @informationwar.

Most of the options DO NOT provide any sort of return...they are simply investing in Steemit while you hope and wait that your Punisher forgets about your annoyance of him

  • Say to hell with it and start a new account

Yes, you lose your Rep, but with every post costing you Rep, then so what?

Wash your STEEM through another exchange and make steady contributions to your new account instead of being obvious about the STEEM transfer.

In other words, if you cash out 5 accounts associated with you and have 55,567.456 STEEM total, then start a new account, then DO NOT just use the blockchain to transfer 55,567.456 STEEM to your new account. Your Punisher may be vindictive as hell, and that is an easy trail to follow.

So, that's it

Hopefully, you can make peace.

Hopefully, IF it is your behavior that causes this retribution against you, you stop doing whatever that is.

Hopefully, you start Steeming again with good contribution to the platform

and HOPEFULLY, STEEM goes back up in value ;>

Sort:

oh pissing matches can get interesting from the sidelines...but can be pretty destructive to an account if you really piss off the wrong person.

Think your idea of delegating everything to @pifc for a while is perfect. That is what you suggested...right...lol.

well, if they dont want to delegate everything to me ;>

Hi @accelerator is not a bidbot - maybe you meant @appreciator. Don't know why a few people have confused the two.

Uggh I should have known that; will correct

both start with "a" and end with "r", 3 syllables, so easy to cross synapses ;>

Thanks! You're by no means the first to do so - dunno, some semiotic resemblance?!

I would expect that is it.

Add in the fact that there are a lot of moving parts and concepts floating around Steemit, so it's easier to confuse that which is unfamiliar to begin with. Yeas it was definitely @accelerator that had a good return in the short time I delegated to it.

The FIRST thing you do is to stop exacerbating the situation. STOP insulting the folks you have a disagreement with

That's good advice. I tend to toe the line between trying to roast people and maybe going too far. (Like I may have done in the joker post idk) It doesn't really do anything to resolve the conflict though... But it can be entertaining sometimes.

I thought this one in this screensnip was funny tho.

I have the same habit

For political reasons tho, I've become more grim and less apt to engage at all with some posters

otoh, I think I've just gotten tired of doing things that way

the you're/your still gets people LOL
