Homeless meal for January is tomorrow, and tonight I am cooking 20+pounds of roast for the stew!

in #palnet5 years ago

It's that time again, we feed the homeless tomorrow afternoon! I need to peel a bushel of carrots yet tonight. The beef roasts will be very tender in the morning, and I added five pounds of onions in to cook with these roasts.

The line forms

We have a good volunteer crew:

We will also have macaroni and cheese and chili and cornbread and fresh carrots mashed with butter a lots of deserts!

The beef stew will be the head of the day I really like it, I wish I could quit making it it's a big pain!

I'm going to try to make some carrot salad with raisins and also tonight since we have had 7 bushels of carrots turn up. What we don't use, I will juice and freeze! I may pressure can some for later too.

It's supposed to be 57 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow with clear skies no rain so we really lucked out for this weekend! With the Winds low, we should manage well with the canopies but we'll still tie them down to the cars.

Our numbers have been down because of the attacks on the homeless from the mayor but we still expect to see a hundred and seventy-five tomorrow. Last year we did 3500 meals are the parking lot but the year before we did 6500. With the mayor's programs attacking the homeless a lot of them have left, which was his goal!

We were able to feed an additional 1,500 people at the Denver house though so that's still holding steady.

So, if you're in downtown Tulsa tomorrow will be at 10th and South Main will be set up with 2 20-foot foot blue canopies. We will start feeding the homeless at 3 p.m. we set up at 2 takes about an hour to put all the equipment together.

BTW, here is what 22 pounds of roast looks like in a big roaster:

Here it is with the onions added and then the heat turned, on ready to cook!

So if you're down that way come and be blessed and be a blessing!

Sir smithlabs! how did that go? How many turned out for it? That's alot of meat.

We had 125 to 150 Homeless there, and they ate very well! Some came back several times, LOL; they really loved the stew....

We ran in food to the Denver House and fed another batch of 50. I hope to do the same tomorrow.

That's tons of work but well worth it sir smithlabs, maybe eventually someone else will volunteer to do the stew.

That would be great! Another 20 years is all I want to commit to, LOL! That is only 80 more batches...and $8000 of beef.

YOU better raise come cattle for me.

Dang, that's alot of beef. Well I'm sure something will change to get more help in that area. I think it's a little much for one person.

We used to have to buy all of it, and now we do have a lot of help. The Church is buying the lion's share of the food now, and two more churches are helping too.

We also have one corporation providing food too. It is a slow process, but we are gaining.

I would Love to have others cook more, and we have half a dozen cooking every month, and some volunteers that pinch hit when needed.

The logistics are becoming as much as the cooking now. Maybe I should do just that, and find some more cooks.

Thanks, @wakeupnd! The mayor here had the police steal all their things, right before it hit 20 degrees here. Without extra clothes and with zero bedding, one Man we were feeding froze to death!

That is Murder in my book....
