New Plant-Based Research Center Coming To Jamaica
It's estimated that there are at least 50 plants which are native to Jamaica that are believed to have medicinal properties, according to the nation's Industry, Commerce, Agriculture, and Fisheries Minister.
Not that long ago, the government announced that they had plans to pursue a new plant-based research center that is expected to help further advance research in this area.
There is a long history of cannabis use in Jamaica and it is closely tied to Rastafarian culture. Through this new center that they plan to open, and along with other endeavors they've made to expand their cannabis market and help with cannabis-related studies, it's expected that they will continue to conduct valuable and cutting-edge research as a result.
The new plant-based center is going to be fully realized with the help of various parties, including the director at Harvard University Medical School.
Some plants that have been identified previously as being used by natives in Jamaica for medicinal purposes, include plants such as Juba, Elder, Cow foot, Spanish needle, Soursop, Spirit weed, candle bush flowers, Water Grass, Wild sage, Peppermint, Sage, Dandelion, and Strong Back.
Researchers have previously discovered that a certain molecule that comes from a Jamaican plant has the ability to fight a variety of cancers and that research is part of the ongoing investigation to pursue more plant-based solutions to treat illness.
One well-known Jamaican scientist, Dr. H. Lowe, has spent decades now investigating the potential of plants to contribute to remedy for a wide range of chronic diseases, including cannabis.
As a result of his research work which has been ongoing for years, Dr. Lowe has also produced a variety of health products relating to his discoveries; he has already launched a variety of cannabis products as a result.
His scientific research into cannabis so far has been able to demonstrate that cannabis might have the potential to help heal prostate cancer, Leukemia, and more.

Good to hear! Glad when the government is working on something that will help the people! I do have a little bit of concern about what type of research they will be doing and hope that it's not more of just pulling apart the plants for it's components but that they will take a more holistic view, considering the plant as a whole along with the many other factors that contribute to the healing or giving medicinal value. Definitely a step in the right direction though!
