More Parents Deciding That Homeschooling Is What Works Best For Their Family

in #palnet5 years ago

The number of children being homeschooled has continued to grow steadily around the United States. And in some states where there is little oversight, like Michigan, they're now ranked near the top for having the most homeschoolers in the country.

Parents are increasingly choosing to customize education for their children in regards to how and what they learn.

And in many cases it's proving to be vastly beneficial for the child. Homeschooling is growing to become more accepted as the best way to approach schooling for a number of reasons and studies show that children being homeschooled can be just as educated and social as their peers who've gone other routes.

The reason that a family chooses to engage in homeschooling could be vastly different from one person to the next.

Some parents have traveled the world while homeschooling their kids. For others, they've wanted to avoid the bullying, the potential for school shootings, the classroom sizes, and more.

In Las Vegas, parents there are upset with their classroom sizes for example, as they're reported to be the largest class sizes in the nation.

As a result, parents are looking to give their children more individualized attention with the opportunity to be educated from home.

They can also seek out small or large group interaction, to foster social skills etc, by looking in their community or online for different activities that they might want to engage in.

Homeschooling can help to foster creativity and encourage the child to explore what they are naturally passionate about.

Pursuing something you are naturally interested in learning about is going to bring better results than forcing someone to remember and regurgitate something they might have no interest in.

Homeschooling can provide an environment that allows the individual to learn in a way that is naturally motivating and rewarding to them.

In many places around the world it is still forbidden for parents to choose homeschooling for their family. They aren't given the freedom to choose their own educational path, which is a basic freedom that I feel every individual should be entitled to, rather than being forced to submit to the will of someone else and what one, or a group of people, believe will be best for their life.

For many families who have special needs, homeschooling is the best fit for them, providing them a chance to travel if they need or organize their learning experience in a way that works best for them.

If parents have their own needs they want addressed more clearly, or if they are generally unsatisfied with the results they've been seeing from public school options and other venues, then they should be afforded the freedom to make a choice. They shouldn't be forced to accept and put their children through a service that they do not want.

@steemitqa just pointed me over here. I 100% agree and just posted this: https://steempeak.com/@nealmcspadden/homeschool-dapp-steem-for-the-win

There are a lot of obstacles to homeschooling. There's that whole babysitting while parents are at work thing. Then there is the fear that the parent isn't a good enough teacher (wrong mindset from the get-go). And there is the record-keeping part. I'm hoping to make record-keeping easy as pie with my dapp idea.

Keep on spreading the word!

Homeschooled with my daughter until she decided to go to high school for social reasons. She later went on to graduate from university after winning a scholarship. Children teach themselves with encouragement and the required resources. They learn a language in about 3-4 years when you think about it. 😎

I don’t think we have many home schoolers in the UK, but schools are relatively close to most homes anyway and the standard are generally ok. It is an option in the UK though - I think anyone living a very long way from the nearest school would consider it.
