Unforgettable day of trekking and commemoration on Monte Grappa - Discovering Italy with alequandro
()!
I'm still a little tired but I had a really exciting Sunday!
I woke up at 4:30 to be punctual at the meeting point, where the walk would start.
ITA
I decided to join a group of trekking enthusiasts with the aim of reaching the summit of Monte Grappa, where a commemorative event was celebrated for the inauguration of the Sacellum dedicated to the Madonna, which took place on 4 August 1901.
He was our guide, a former soldier and president of the sports association.
He had the task of accompanying us to the event, on time for the start of the celebrations.

The walk began immediately with a steep climb on wet grass and the more we climbed the more the show became beautiful!
The light was beautiful and the wet grass made the colors vibrant.

Other groups just like us, climbed from different parts of the mountain towards the summit, very beautiful to see.
ITA
We walked in the direction of the sun and the effect of the counter light was fantastic!
ITA
Camminavamo in direzione del sole e l'effetto del contro luce era fantastico!
At some point in the ascent the structures of the war memorial were beginning to be seen.
ITA
The west part is dedicated to the bodies of Italian soldiers, the area to the east of the Austrian soldiers.
ITA
The two structures are joined by a wide road called "via degli eroi" which is 300 meters long.
On the sides of the via degli eroi there are blocks that bear the name of the theater war peaks.
You think there are about 23,000 soldiers buried there!
It seems impossible...

Sembra impossibile...
The ceremony lasted 2 hours, there were many people, and they attended the military corps, the state representatives, the various military divisions of the municipalities of the territory, the choirs and bands, both Italian and Austrian.

Then the Pope's secretary of state, the cardinal, celebrated mass.
ITA
When the celebration in front of the Italian ossuary ended, we all moved towards the Austrian ossuary...
ITA
When the ceremony ended, people headed for nearby restaurants to eat, but we still had some way to go to get back to the cars, so we set off!
ITA
Then Carlo our guide, took us to visit one of the most important military galleries to defend the top of the mountain during the First World War.
The Vittorio Emanuele III Gallery
ITA
Luckily I had a led lamp in my backpack, because in the gallery it was total darkness!
ITA
We visited many observation posts from where they fired and thought about the noise they were subjected to in those stone structures!
ITA
Carlo then explained to us that the tunnel is more than 6 km long !!
It was done in four and a half months!
ITA
E' stata realizzata in quattro mesi e mezzo!
Then from the darkness and cold of the gallery we went out again outside and our eyes had to get used to the light again...
ITA
The day was fantastic but I admit that I felt a little tired ... I was up at 4:30, it was 2:00 pm and I still had to eat!
I couldn't wait to sit down :D
ITA
Around us there was a landscape made of hills, a soft, sinuous landscape...
ITA
Despite the fatigue the desire to take pictures has not abandoned me!
ITA
In front of a tank where the animals are watered I put the camera away and I thought it was the right place to drink the last water of my water bottle! : D
By now I had arrived and I was very tired but satisfied!

!!
An experience that I have never done and that I recommend to everyone.

Well, by now I have to admit that @alequandro 's posts are really commendable, you always tell us very interesting things and your stories are full of meaning and full of details. not to mention your photos, which are exceptional! the photos of nature are always beautiful, but this time I have to say that the celebration of the ceremony in front of the ossuary is particularly impressive: how not to rethink all that those soldiers suffered in those trenches to defend an Italy not yet united. we must not forget what the past teaches us, but unfortunately I think that there is often a lot of hypocrisy in these events: pray, the heroes of the past are commemorated but too often we do not yet know how to sacrifice ourselves for other men like those Alpine men did. thanks for sharing :-))
Thank you! It takes time to make a post like that, but when I publish it, I'm happy, because I know I've written a memory that will remain indelible over time.
I have the feeling that in recent years certain values of unity and respect are less present.
Taking part in that ceremony gave me hope that there are many people who have not forgotten the importance of certain values.
I also thought like you that these manifestations have a fund of hypocrisy but when I was there, I felt a strong sense of unity and moral participation.
While I was there I also thought that many of those people follow political leaders who go against these principles and it made me a little angry.
But I believe these events are important and should be organized to attract as many young people as possible.
In my small way I try to document them through my photos and tell them what happens outside of television and shopping centers!
