Painter Chung Chong-You’s Life and Works in the Exhibition
The second painter who attracted me was Chong Chong-You who had worked during Japanese Imperial rule. It was said he suffered very difficult time in childhood. His parents passed away early. So he was supported by Buddhist temple. Because he was very talented in painting, the monks helped him study in Japan. At that time studying in Japan was not easy for ordinary people. After finishing his study in Japan art college, he made up his mind sketch all of landscapes of Korea.
Eventhough he was a traditional painting specialist, his work seemed to be influenced by the western and Japanese style of painting.
After the liberation from Japanese rule, whole korea was falling into the turmoil of ideological conflict between socialism and liberalism. At that time, communism was believed as the protector for the 3 world.
Jung Chong-Juo had crossed over the line drawn between the south and the north Korea. He went to the north korea. After crossing the line to the north, his activity was not known.
I’d like to introduce his work with 3 posts.
At first post, I’d like to show you his works concerning the landscape, and in next post let me introduce other works.

The story of Chong Chong-You and his talent that probably was the opportunity to escape in his world of dreams and creation is something that helps people to overcome difficult time. I love his landscape painting, especially enormous height of mountains and clouds.
