A tale of two skill rankings pt1
I have been playing Overwatch since its release. I pre-ordered the game for the PC wanting a different game to absorb myself in after becoming tired of the grind of end game World of Warcraft.
In season 1 I could not aim. As a consequence I played heroes like Torbjorn, Symmetra, and Mercy. Having no experience playing a first person shooter (unless you count golden eye for the N64), my confidence in my abilities could not be lower. Even though Overwatch provided heroes that could be played with a relatively high skill floor and have at least some impact for players at a low skill level, I didn't want to play in the competitive mode very often.
It wasn't until season 2 that I decided that it was time to see how good really was and was promptly placed in silver. It is now season 9 and my main account is now diamond which I play mainly support. My second account I play as DPS and placed in silver in season 8 and have now climbed to gold.
It has taken some time to figure out which skills I needed to hone to begin my climb. I would watch youtube videos to learn the tips and tricks that would point me in the right direction.
What I hope to accomplish with this blog is a broader picture of how somebody with fairly low skill or is just new to the game, can climb to the highest ranks with perseverance, the right tools, and focus. Hopefully I will Master this season (Season 9).
