6 Ways How I Turned My Garden Into An Oasis (Under A Small Budget)
Hello Everyone!
I hope you´ve enjoyed your weekend to the maximum. Today, I would like to share with you how I decorated one of the two sitting areas in my garden so that I could enjoy it without ruining my wallet by spending a lot of money. My thoughts were to get the most of a small budget and obtain ways on getting accessories that are not expensive and still have elegance in them. I save money every time I decorate something in my house and that is because I make the decor myself or recycle old materials.
TURNING MY GARDEN INTO AN OASIS
Here are my tips on how I save money in decorating my garden terrace or sitting area and made it into a paradise- like oasis:
1... In my window shopping spree, I look for accessories or any decor articles that are on sale, those that are discontinued or rest ones that are put to the sale box by the furniture shop or big department stores. I look at the price tag and if it has potential then I buy it. Sometimes, the Sale Box is where all items are sold at a very low price and sometimes at almost give-away prices. And mind you, even if the Sale Season has not come yet, the Sale Box is the first one I see if I enter a shop.
2... Decorate your sitting area with flowers... buy clay pots or use old cans, paint them all same color or mixed that could compliment your tablecloth and get newbie flowering plants in various colors... it will uplift your summer feeling and you would feel relaxed as if you are on vacation even if you just arrived home from your work.
The two wooden pots with decoupage flowers (see cover image on top, 1st photo) are actually made of wood that I found in a local supermarket in Southern Spain. They put this pair on sale for 0.50 Euro cents each because the plants they offered dried-out so the pots became empty. When I saw them, I grabbed them instantly and brought them with me in the luggage back home.
3... If you live in and around the countryside, look for wildflowers growing everywhere during the season.....they just pop-up along streetsides or open fields and you can just cut and arrange them in a vase.. Below, I used blue and grey designed jugs which are common vessels for wine served in rustic german pubs. But my collection came from flea market scouring and I collected a dozen at a fraction of a cost. Btw, I always add my home grown flowers to the wildflower arrangement to give a bit of twist in colors as you can see in the bouquets here.
4...I use vinyl tablecloth for my table in the garden, we have such a crazy weather and it will likely rain anytime even in Summer. I just wipe off the dirt that gets accumulated on the table. You do not have to wash it , just wipe with a mild soap and clean cloth dip in a pail of water.
5... I made the cushion covers out of old cushion we had some 2 decades ago. Although they were old, they looked new because we seldom used them. So I cut the cushion into two pieces for the back and the seat and used two fabrics so that it is reversible. The fabrics were curtain rests from a curtain shop which I found in their Sale Box. These two wooden chairs are now old and need refurbishment, although I would love to have them look vintage. I found them in a hardware for sale about 15 years ago at a give-away price.
6... Decorate your garden wall with flowers. And If you do not have a garden, the wall of your terrace will do. Everytime I go home from my spanish vacation, I always bring along a pair of metal holders for clay pots. They are cheap and cost about 1 Euro in a chinese shop. With them, I created a spanish wall in my viennese garden and planted them with various geraniums of different colors each season. Last year, I had petunias and this season, it´s the geraniums in various shades of pink and red.
If you can´t see such holders in garden centers, there are possibilities of using bigger tin cans which can be upcycled as containers to attach to your wall or fence or hang them. Upcycle those cans by painting them either in mono color or in vibrant colors.
This is truly a wonderful place to relax, you made it so lovely and you are right, I would also fee the same vibes and relaxed in such a wonderful background.
