Sad Bastard Music invades Valentine's Day: BRAND NEW SONG inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (Reflections, Lyrics, Links and Two Diverse Performances)

Wild Bob's Musical Book Club once again proved an amazingly fun night to share in locally-crafted music on a common theme from a beautifully diverse array of local songwriters.

With Valentine's Day being tomorrow,
Romeo and Juliet was the monthly musing, and I was super excited to have the opportunity, as Shakespeare is one of my absolute favorites, to write and share a song about the classic play.

When I was in middle school, I was obsessed with both Romeo and Juliet as well as A Midsummer Night's Dream, and as I progressed through college, I coveted my copy of Complete Works (and still do), as this privilege that owning it was required reading for the ever-required Shakespeare class that all BA English majors take. I love that shit, and I'll never get rid of that anthology.

Wild Bob's Musical Book Club:

I've spoken fondly of WBMBC on quite a few occasions, as I always feel privileged to share the stage with such a great artistic community, as well as the challenge of writing a song on the theme of a specific book or play or epic poem is really incredible.

I heard so many really interesting love songs, and I guess that is ultimately what I presented, too...an interesting love song, although it isn't by any stretch of the imagination what I would consider a love song in any "conventional" sense of the word. I hope you enjoy it.

The original performance of this song utilizes the human voice, Boss RC-30 Loop Station, AK Multimedia iRig Keys PRO with external sustain pedal, GarageBand for iOS (Classical Grand Piano, Brass Ensemble, Strings Staccato, Strings Sustain VSTs), 22" inch Pearl crash/ride cymbal, and Zildjian cymbal mallets.

Lyrics

be satisfied

crash the masquerade
at the house of capulet
my punk-ass friends and their punk-ass plans
led me to Juliet

news of death and plans to mantua
didn't make it there
but Balthazar did his very best to show that he cared

apothecary give me something
that will end this all in death
because if she isn't here i have nothing left
i need a tincture to coarse through all of my veins
and i want to take the last drink
because she took my last name

attempts to overcome hate with love are not without consequence "a plague on both your houses"--
"i am fortune's fool"

"be satisfied..."
"there's much ado with hate, but more to do with love"

apothecary give me something
that will end this all in death
because if she isn't here i have nothing left
i need a tincture to coarse through all of my veins
and i want to take the last drink
because she took my last name

Performance Diversity

This song was initially composed exclusively on my MIDI controller keyboard on my iPhone...but then I thought I would put my new mallets to good use, so I did just that.

I had another awesome opportunity to perform on Saturday, only this time I didn't bring the looper. Click here if you want to check out the entire 30 minute set on Periscope.. I still wanted to play this tune, so I also worked it up simply for guitar. Let me know what you think.

Thank you so much! I would also love to talk collab!!!

You have a timbre that reminds me of Adele! I hope that is ok to say. I like it very much. Upped, of course. Thank you and Namaste!

@ebryans Thank you so much for those words. I don't know how a comparison to Adele could be anything but an amazing compliment and I graciously receive it. Thank you sincerely for the support! I can't wait to get this one recorded properly.

You are most welcome - I love music of pretty much every genre. (Heavy Metal is an exception but that is not really music!)
It would be great if we can support you via the Fb group somehow. Are you doing the open mic contest? You definitely should. The people there are So so nice. @papa-pepper is ever-present and he is great.
My bro is a DJ and a friend in London a producer ... think big!
Namaste.

Good stuff @jessamynorchard! Always love hearing the new tunes!
