There is a lot of very convincing evidence that life arrived via comets and is in fact widespread across the universe. A lot of research has gone into this over the years by the scientists Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe, and they have a very well developed theory of how this would work and lead to evolution on a universal scale.
