Flowers and Stencils Origami Tessellations

in #origami6 years ago (edited)

@ivan-g has posted a fun tutorial on how to make the coasters featured in his recent competition.

The tutorial can be found here

Fold the paper to the center of the hexagon not edge to edge as I did and you will be fine.

I've been playing with it most of the afternoon and it is excellent. Tessellations are often shown as silhouettes and I finally understand why. Held up to the light you can see beautiful patterns develop and as a bonus you can't really see how worn the paper is becoming except where I have accidentally torn it. Oops.

One of the things I am exploring with in origami recently is trying to reverse/invert whatever I've created. Tessellations seem designed for this and invert into beautiful flower like patterns.

Thank you @ivan-g for your interesting and clear tutorial.

Awesome, I haven't seen these yet :o
I tear paper all the time with tessellations, especially if the paper isn't good enough.

The paper was just standard origami paper 7.5x7.5cm It did stand up pretty well going through about six transformations before ripping. It was nice working with paper with so many precreases.

Y buenas tus piezas también ;)
