Origami Tesselations step-by-step

This was suggested by @jewlzie, I'm guessing a lot of people are concerned with giving out their private info(I'm kinda not) so for people who want the coasters here's a tutorial, it's an intermediate model and unlike most origami begins with a hexagon and not a square. Here's how to make a hexagon from an A4 (any rectangle that's wide enough will do).

Unfold and pivot the right corners along the middle and the quarter lines as shown

Cut off those parts

Fold the right side along the top edge and cut of the excess parts on the left

Hexagon done :D

Fold in half over and over again till you get this grid

Time for the building, pinch along all the corners till you see the small hexagon in the middle

IMG_20180902_211320.jpg

Start spinning the hexagon clockwise folding the corners one triangle to the right

Pinch two triangles away from a corner of the central hexagon splitting it into three

Flatten

Repeat on all sides

That's it, wonder how many people gave up half way, I don't like doing too difficult tutorials since I doubt there are too many origami fanatics and doing models out of your own reach can become frustrating which isn't the point of origami. Still I wanted to show the process of making the model, you don't have to make a model to appreciate it's steps :)

Also here's the diagram in the book I learned it from:
Origami tesselations by Eric Gjerde, there's a little adjustment, In my model it actually goes 3 triangles away from the inner hexagon(one's underneath) instead of the two here, reason for that is to avoid a pretty annoying flattening step at the outer corner and I like it more this way

Great work👏

Thanks :)

Excelente ;) me gustan las teselaciones

Thank you

Still trying to do this haha. Thank you @ivan-g for the steps!

Oh wow, great job! This looks like a lot of fun to make, thanks for sharing the guide! :)
