Steemit Open Mic Week 140 Prière, Oscar van DurmesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #openmic5 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for the Steemit Openmic contest, week 141

Oscar Van Durme (1876 - 1925) was a Belgian composer and organist. He was born in Exaarde. He studied organ in Sint-Niklaas and later at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. Besides beging an organist he started composing as well. He composed mainly religious work, masses, cantatas and works for organ. His works were published in journals like "Le Journal des organistes" and "L'organiste moderne" and were often reprinted.

This Prière is a melodious work, firmly rooted in the romantic tradition, with an elegant harmonic language.

The sound recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Voxus, of the Stahlhuth/Jahn organ in the St. Martin’s church, Dudelange (https://www.voxusorgans.com/en/product/dudelange).

For those interested in playing it themselves, the score is available here:

Thanks for your support, I'm pleasantly surprised! :-)

My pleasure, I meant to ask you the other day and I forgot, do you ever play any Arvo Part compositions?

No, I've never played Pårt. Did he ever written something for organ?

He has quite a few compositions that have organ in them but Im not sure if he has any solo peices for organ. I'm a huge fan of his music so I thought I'd ask 😊

Love the trem! Will have a play through myself sometime. What is the difference between your score and the original?

Posted using Partiko iOS

None, I hope. This is the original in my engraving. Deviations from the original are either mistakes in my engraving or mistakes in my source.

I found your post on the trending page of PalNet! Keep doing the great work... By the way, what sample set are you using?

I had not seen that yet. Nice, organ music goes trending!
I used the sample set of the Stahlhuth/Jahn organ in the St. Martin’s church, Dudelange. Seems I forgot to add that I the description. I'll correct that.

At the moment I have a problem with PalNet: I don't see any posts younger than 10 hours ago. Do you have the same problem? Or is something wrong on my end of the connection?

Sometimes my palnet feed gets stuck but not always.
