Steemit Musicians Trending On Steemit Open Mic.
Musicians are finding a place on Steemit with contests like Steemit Open Mic, RapChallenge, KaraokeContest, and similar music-related blogs on the Steemit platform.
What's Going On?
Some of you may know I host Steemit Open Mic and support musicians on Steemit. What you may not know is how many comments I get from new users of Steemit telling me how the music community is what attracted them to the site and what keeps them here.

It's almost a daily occurrence that someone sends a comment telling me their first post was to enter the contest and their rewards were exciting enough to keep them entering again and they picked up some real followers too.
One thing I love to see is a good song or performance from a new user get rewarded and thanks to them entering the contest they get noticed not only by people following the contest but by other curation efforts like Project Curie who have featured many of the new authors that have posted to Steemit Open Mic. Thanks, @curie!
Here is a few of the trending posts for the last 5 weeks of Open Mic just to see what some people are earning in rewards. Even if they don't win the contest they still get very excited when some of their first posts pay out these kinds of rewards.
Steemit Open Mic Week 43 Trending Posts
Steemit Open Mic Week 44 Trending Posts
Steemit Open Mic Week 45 Trending Posts
Steemit Open Mic Week 46 Trending Posts
Steemit Open Mic Week 47 Trending Posts
These trending posts have been consistent every week for almost a year now and that is very exciting for musicians on Steemit.
What I Have Learned
What I have learned here is it is better to give to the Steemit community than it is to take from it. The more my focus is on helping others the more rewarding this whole experience becomes.
People follow those who help them so there is no need to ask people to follow me. The more I see these new entries earning each week the more excited I get to grow Steemit Open Mic.
NOTE TO NEW USERS: Instead of asking everyone to follow you for a follow why don't you try to think of something you can do for the community that will help them and see how that works for you.
There is a real sense of a community building around Steemit Open Mic and other contests like it that are rare in the online world and fostering that connection is the "value" people talk about when they talk about adding value to your posts.
Stepping back to the point of view of the typical musician who discovers Steemit and posts their performance to Open Mic, imagine their surprise when they wake up the next day and find their post made $100.
If you're a street musician you know the effort it takes to earn $100 on the street. Compared to the post you just made it is work. It is exciting to realize you can busk in your own living room and have an appreciative audience interact with your music thanks to this wonderful platform.
What's Next?
Some musicians come with their own following they could bring to the platform and that is the next step for Steemit Open Mic in my view.
To attract musician to join Steemit and busk their music online here and then blast their Steemit links to their followers, thus attracting more potential Steemit users.
That's also why one of the rules to enter is to say "Steemit Open Mic" at the beginning of their videos and titles of their posts. To attract more musicians that keep seeing all of the posts to the contest on YouTube and Facebook.
I see Steemit Open Mic evolving into a website or app that a musician can go to, join Steemit, upload a performance, and have a chance to earn rewards and build a community around music.
A website or app would make it specific to music and could be marketed to musicians and in music magazines, attracting more talented musicians to the platform along with their followers.
The site could look something like SteemReport.com's Steemit Open Mic Table but a little more polished and link for people to sign up to Steemit.
Thank You
I want to thank the Steemit community and all the musicians that contributed and made Steemit Open Mic possible, @pfunk for his loyal support, @verbal-d, @jessamynorchard, @soundlegion, and @krystle for helping with judging the entries and spreading the word.

And special thanks to Steemit and everyone in it for making this all possible.

"If you're a street musician you know the effort it takes to earn $100 on the street."
Preach! It takes a lot of work to earn any decent money on the street as a busker.
Open Mic is one of the reasons that I am still here and thriving on Steem. I feel bad that I haven't been able to participate for a few weeks...
We miss you.
Keep up the good work @luzcypher, great post as usually.
