Steemit OpenMic Songwriter's Challenge Week 7 - "Right Place Right Time" - [Original Song Demo]

in #openmic7 years ago (edited)

Here's my dual submission for Open Mic & Songwriter's Challenge. The theme was "Right Place/Right Time." This one seemed easy enough & in that, I really tried to break away from my usual guitar style on this one.

I adopted a quasi-reggae (or even dance music groove), which I don't normally use. At first it came out more as a country vibe. Of course there is also a bunch of classic jaybird stuff in there as well.

As per usual, by no means is this a perfect performance, I screw up a bit, some lyrics/melody and play a wrong chord here and there haha oh but the worst part was....My Guitar being all wonky and needing a set up! It can no longer stay in tune right now!!! Sooooo Frustrating! Once I put the capo on...oh lord.

Hope you enjoy anyway!

Right Place Right Time – Jay Sussman - Jan 4 2018

V:It’s always been on my mind since we first moved
When I left it all behind just to be with you
Still it caught me by surprised when we fell through
Just wanted you

You say it’s only a matter of time till
I finally begin to forgive you
That I just can’t leave us behind cause it’s too soon
It’s still too soon

P:Oh I better leave before it kills me
Get in that car and just drive
We may not be in the right place
This may not be the right time

C:To say goodbye x3

V:Even though so much time has past
I know that you and I will always have
This push and pull that I can never break
Wish I could break

B:We may not be in the right place
This may not be the right time
But maybe if I leave this place
I can get u out of my mind
And say goodbye

And say goodbye x3

Cool man, don't know why you are making fuss about tuning and guitar, this sounds great.

Ahhh it was brutal for me (so I'm irked about it and needed to rant), I had to tune the whole guitar flat to get it to sound quasi-tuned & stay for a full take. The D- and the C were really hard to sing to at points. I played the guitar a bit quieter too..to try and overpower it with vocals lol. I think I hid it pretty well in the end. I guess I'm pretty critical of bad singing so I never want to be doing it myself ;)

wow... you can't tell. I guess it worked!

Yea, tuning it slightly flat and sort of learning how to cope with it after a few takes helped lol.

Love it, man! The variation was cool but so were the "classic" Jaybird effects! Nice, brother!

I love the different rhythm, Old and new jay bird mixing very well ;)
It's so hard, I'm trying to do different stuff but it ends up being the same kind of song I always do :(
And man I wished my guitar would sound as good, lol.

so... freaking...catchy...

I'm going to have that "...goodbye/A-aye" in my head for a bit. Serious earworm.

I really like the upbeat, reggae feel here. And TBH, I didn't notice whatever mistakes there were, or even tuning issues.

Of course, when I post one of my own songs...

then I notice mistakes that probably aren't even @#$%ing there!

So I get where you're coming from. I thought this was a great, catchy pop song tho, and a passionate, effective performance.

Thanks for the kind words. Hope you don't get too sick of hearing that lol.

Ya, most ppl don't see the "mistakes" I'm guessing. When we write a tune, we know how it's supposed to go and what we wanted to do specifically at this point or that etc.

nope, not at all. "Earworm" was meant to be a compliment ;)

I love Guitar bro , Nice music @jaybird

so nice. Like the guiar playing and your vocal.

Sounds great man! Love it!
