Open Mic Week 37 - "There's Nothing Here For Me" Original Song, recorded in my bathroomsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #openmic7 years ago

So here's my submission for this week's open mic. This suddenly just came out of me when I picked up the guitar today, I wrote it in one hour flat, which I have never done before, it usually takes me weeks if I'm honest!
It's obviously very rough and raw, I'm reading the lyrics which are rested ontop of some toilet roll next to my tablet and I lose track towards the end haha. But I don't expect many of you will listen to it anyway, but I hope some people do and maybe understand where I'm coming from...
I'm really stuck in my life at the moment, stuck in my town, stuck in a situation that I wish would just go away, and all I want to do is run for the horizon and feel free again, so that's what this song is about.
Thanks.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful, thank you for giving me a moment of peace with your song.

Awww thank you, it's a bit messy right now but if you really had a moment of peace with it you're welcome!

I love people singing about what they feel and I love the sound of a guitar, it's peace for me...

Well feel free to follow, I'll be posting more original songs soon. =)

Great tune Brother. If you feel like running away do it, but, remember you will be running TOWARDS something as you run away!

Wise words!

It has a Neil Young sound.
(But with better vocals)
Well done!
:)

This is the best song I've heard on Steemit yet. Brilliant. It almost has that 90s MTV Unplugged grunge feel to it, which was one of the last authentic periods of music. So congratulations. The acoustics in your bathroom are great haha. If you ever release this you should just release this raw bootleg version, don't ruin it with studio polishing or anything - this is great just as it is. I'd buy it and I'm sure others here are enjoying listening to it too!
Nice to see a lad from Yorkshire here too?

Cheers,
Calum!

Thanks a lot Calum, are you from Yorkshire too? I could have sworn you were American, haha. I've actually rearranged this song somewhat, as I wasn't happy with some of it, the revised version is much better! Thanks for your kind words, looking forward to hearing more of your songs. =)

I'm from Newcastle Haha.

Wae'aye man! =P

Hey Clint, I really enjoyed your song. And I'm a pretty serious songwriter myself so I don't give out praise to fellow songwriter's unless it's seriously earned. And you damn well earned it. I like the bathroom setting. It makes it clear how RAW it is but the natural reverb gives it a nice "liveness" that supports your voice and playing. All the best to you!

Thanks for listening Mark, I have followed you so I will have a listen to your work when I've got my headphones! :)

Nice song. Good job. Those moments where inspiration comes out of nowhere and everything falls into place like fate generally produce some of the greatest things.

I know, it's so mysterious, it feels like there is some ultra positive force there as a witness when you get that inspired feeling. I always wonder where it comes from...

We can also have moments that are a total flop and all of that magic is missing. Those times really are a drag.

just what i needed , aouthentic music omg... thank you!

It's wonderful when the heart may be disheartened, but all of a sudden ~ Given music to let it all go with. You are so blessed, that even at a time when it may seem as if you are 'stuck' in a situation ~ Something is working through you. 💖

Thank you so much for your support, you are right, there are some very mysterious forces at play in this world...!

Everyone of us feels like or have felt like that in some way or another and somewhere or another. You have the courage to put those feelings into a song which everyone can relate to one way or another. Opening up and saying it out loud already causes some or other reaction in ones brain as a way to deal with the issue at hand. Hats off to you man.
Applause
:)

Aww thank you Belinda, I feel like you're always there supporting me..! :')

Why do you record in the bathroom though? Just curious...

Haha, I don't usually.. I thought it might sound better and I wanted a change of scenery. It's really not a good recording, the mic is terrible on my tablet, I just felt like busting it out and putting straight out there. :)

When I first started playing guitar I would play in the bathroom because the guitar sounds good in there. All the tile reflects the sound in such a small place you get a natural reverb. Sounded good, didn't it?

Natural reverb!
