From History: Today's Famous Birthdays

1. Rob Hall

Rob Hall was a New Zealand mountaineer who had 5 summits to Mount Everest.

He grew up in New Zealand climbing Southern Alps.

He and another New Zealander mountain climber started a mountain climbing guiding business in the name of Adventure Consultants in 1992.

Rob Hall was known as the "mountain goat" or the "show". Former name was because of his accuracy, reliability and safety measures while guiding the clients to climb mountains.

Hall along with another guide and 2 clients took an assignment to climb Mount Everest (his 5^th summit) in 1996.

There was a blizzard when they started climbing and the summit couldn't be realized as one of the climbers had ran out of oxygen and Hall had to assist the client.

In the process, client died and soon after because of the issue with his own oxygen mask, Hall also passed away, making that one of the disastrous expeditions of Mount Everest.

Hall was famous for climbing all the 7 summits (Aconcagua, Mount Everest, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Denali, Kosciuszko, Vinson) in a span of 7 months.

2. Faye Dunaway

Faye Dunaway is an American actress who is an Academy Award winner along with 3 Golden Globe, a BAFTA and an Emmy Award winner.

She is also the first person to be awarded with Leopard Club Award.

She started her career in 1960 by acting in a broadway and her first movie was in 1967 with the movie "The Happening".

Her other famous movies include Bonnie and Clyde, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Arrangement, The Three Musketeers, Chinatown, Three Days of the Condor, Network(for this, she received an Academy Award for Best Actress).

3. Hendrik Willem van Loon

Hendrik Willem van Loon was a Dutch-American historian, journalist and children's book author.

His dissertation for PhD "The Fall of the Dutch Republic" is considered as his first book, which was published in 1911.

His other notable books are The Story of Mankind(won a Newbery Medal for him), "Our Battle, Being One Man's Answer to "My Battle""The Story of the Bible, Tolerance to name a few.

4. Albert Schweitzer

Albert Schweitzer was a French-German theologian, writer, humanitarian, philosopher and physician who is a winner of Nobel Peace Prize for his philosophy of "Reverence for Life" in 1952.

He was a believer of Lutheranism(Protestants group of followers of Martin Luther King) and challenged secular view of Jesus as well as traditional Christian view.

5. Emily Watson

Emily Watson is an English actress who was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress for her debut film Breaking the Waves in 1996.

She is a winner of BAFTA Award for movie Appropriate Adult in 2011.

Her famous movies include Hilary and Jackie, The Boxer, Gosford Park, Red Dragon, Corpse Bride, Miss Potter, War Horse and the recent one being "Kingsman: The Golden Circle".

Besides acting in movies, she is also a stage actress worked as part of Royal Shakespeare Company.

She has been nominated to Academy Awards twice and thrice for Golden Globe Awards.
