Looks can be deceiving online
Makeup really does change how one actually looks, often times drastically. You've seen those YouTube videos where even men can transform themselves into drop dead gorgeous women with some magic makeup skills.

Then there are filters. With Instagram leading the pack, filtered photos are abound online. Top it off with Facebook, mobile apps and the Web with their photo transformation features, and you become an almost unrecognisable, more than perfect version of yourself.
I mean, I'm all for the "you do you" mantra, but I get annoyed sometimes when people pass off filtered pictures of themselves and claim it as them in real life. As for makeup, I do know of some people who wear thick layers of it; while I do understand if they put them on occasionally, I wish they wouldn't sell themselves online thinking that they look that way 24/7.
I know that our online and real-life personas are merging rapidly as humanity becomes more digital, but I wish people put more effort to make their online version match more with real-life, rather than vice versa. You've got to manage expectations. I guess this is why more and more people in this decade have increasingly become more disappointed with life.
Part of the reason why I don't wear makeup in real life is because I want people to judge me by my actions, and not by my looks. Especially for single people, or people who are active in building and helping their community, it's better to put yourself out there as authentic as you can.
What would your impression be if I look like this:

Only to see me actually looking like this, which is how I usually am in public?

Expectations, I'm telling you. Be wary what and how you put yourself online. It's better to be underestimated and overdeliver, than to be overestimated and underdeliver.
When you live a meaningful life that you choose and it makes you happy, believe me no filter is needed. It'll shine through in reality as much as it will online.
