Popping Corn Off Grid!
I hope you all do not get sick of my rocket stove posts but this is the only time of the year it is dry enough for me to get outside and play with it. Tonight was the first time to try making popcorn on it and as one would expect, it was great!

is it just as noisy as popping it in the microwave ? glad you only showed pictures hearing and watching it pop might have made me hungry :D thanks for sharing
Haha! :D I would say it is just as noisy, maybe more so because of turning the handle to keep the corn moving in the pan so it doesn't burn

After eating microwave popcorn for many years, then finding out how harmful it is, I switched to making it on the stove. It tastes great and you can vary the toppings so much. Great idea to do it on the rocket stove. I've seen projects using tin cans to make rocket stoves but I wonder if it would be worth it just to go ahead and buy one like this.
And it tastes so much better too! We are very happy with this one, but yes, there are many ways to make your own. I am sure if we had waited till Patrick had more time, he would have just built one himself, but I went ahead and bought this one and have been very pleased :)
Do you live off grid, or just like to explore and take trips?
We are mostly off grid in the way we live. We are still connected to public power, but we have an extensive solar power set up and also do a lot of things without electricity. In the winter when we are getting little solar collection, I do most of my cooking and baking on my wood stove, even though it is not a cook stove. I have a treadle sewing machine and many hand powered utensils for my kitchen. I would like to get a hand crank blender at some point, but those things also do not draw much power. To us, the public power is more of a back up but we would love to disconnect some day

We found ours at a garage sale, only paid a couple of dollars for it, it had never even been used. We love it!
