OCDB Fund

in #ocdb6 years ago

With the recent big delegation to @ocdb and the market being in decline thus users in the whitelist thinking that they are losing out by buying votes, I decided to create @ocdbfund (may create more than 1 due to 1 vote per 24h limit) but the idea is to show that in fact you are not losing out by using ocdb and that you do gain approximately 10% profit from each bid.

The other idea with it is to use the profits from the account to fund something in the near future which will aid OCD and the community. As you know @ocd has big plans for the future of this platform but it has been a tough start as the amount of newcomers joining during this bear market has not been high which is understandable.

Before I get more into what OCD plans to do also in the near future except for curating and adding people to the @ocdb whitelist, I made this post to also ask people for ideas of what the profits in the @ocdbfund could be used for. This idea came to me originally after the @burnpost experiment started by @smooth, seeing @ocdb just sit idle I figured I better use it for something good.

The rules of @ocdbfund will basically be to do 100% power up and only buy votes with Steem and see how much it starts to profit once post rewards start coming in. Those rewards will be counted and saved for the future, worst case scenario (if nothing needs to be funded) the extra Steem will be sent to @null.

Thoughts?

I realize it won't be voting on content but it is better than to have the account sit there idle, @ocdb is not like other bid bots so it can be a bit special I figured. :)

Use it as an outreach account, but not to reach out to users but to charities.

Empower those with an active reach who contribute to improve the lives of several already.

Most charities nowadays have embraced social media and while often they have little time for it, that also comes because they are usually stretched in resources. Both in human and financial resources.

If they may earn from it, and every penny often counts for them, then they may possibly also find more value in it than the nowadays almost compulsory social media accounts they need to maintain.

With apps like SteemPress and Engrave, they may be able to expand their reach being also here. But what's the incentive for them if they are just one of thousands minnows never to be found.

I have been pretty busy before, during and after Steemfest - making connections to help produce a novel way to make onboarding of users both free for those users and also significantly more simple and pleasurable than the existing steemit.com method. If you have any 'spare' Steem then please consider blowing it over to @steempassport and it will be used to complete the needed tasks such as producing educational material, organising marketing and building the technical tools needed to make a great onboaridng project work. I am building up to making an initial video/post explaining what we are going to be doing but it is a work in progress due to the complexity of the task and the number of people involved. We are likely to be co-operating and sharing work with the @Steemonboarding project and basically working with as many groups as we can. Also, if your group is interested in connecting with us to help curate new users then please do. :)

I did see @steemonboarding but no @steempassport. While I don't have spare STEEM at the moment, I may have in the future to help. However, I can offer some delegation support if the proposal of the project is something that will help new users onboard with education and tools. I have followed the account for updates. Thanks!

Great, thanks! The passport project is intended to focus more on the technical aspect of onboarding and also providing a website and possibly API to make that a reality. There will probably also be a marketing focused onboarding site too, along the lines of seemonboarding, but that remains to be seen as they may do a great enough job that we don't need to - or perhaps we will collaborate on that directly. Stay tuned!

More projects like this will definitely help the ecosystem. I think that the best way to support the future is by funding education of new users on how to use and engage with the community. Onboarding of new users would be high on my list for projects that need more attention.

This is the function and purpose of @steempassport and I was going to suggest helping us get it off the ground - so thanks. I will explain in my own comment.

Sorry, you lost me there... how does the @ocdbfund account stop the whitelisted users from thinking they are losing out by buying votes from @ocdb?

I'm not one of those people, but I'm not quite sure I understand the logic.

Guessing the account will serve as actual example use case.

Thank you Mr Mayhem!

I wrote a post simulating the growth an account can have a week or so ago but surprisingly enough even people in the ocd team are thinking they are losing out by buying votes from ocdb during a price decline. Basically gonna put my money where my mouth is and anything that the account profits from this will be used to fund something nice that we all benefit from or straight out burn the Steem.

Ahhh, okay, that totally makes sense... I'm sure everyone will be interested in the graphs!

Thanks for the clarification!

That's basically due to the significant drop of Steem price? If it is stable, then we would see the profit as stated :)

It's still there, that's the point. People don't see it cause they use SBD and 50/50 instead.

Yup, the value is still equivalent. Just that the wrong timing to bid 🤣

It can be something like how @fundition does with some project based support whereby the project has to compliment with @ocd direction and also benefiting the Steem ecosystem.

There is nothing wrong to have an account staying idle as long as the stakes are wholly owned by ourselves or the delegators are fine with that.

It could be used as delegation for smaller curation projects out there. As we know there quite few.

@ocdb is a non-profit bidbot for whitelisted Steemians, current max bid is 20 SBD and the respective amount in Steem.
