Bucharest as a feeling
Roaming through the old City Centre of my capital... ah, the feeling of a younger me, a few years back, with my husband, a few years after we met.
I don't know why we fell in love but we did in it in such a powerful way that the same love, tore us apart later. During our nice years we used to stay a lot in Bucharest just for fun... either late nights and driving back home or motels untill the morning, didn't matter. Bucharest was alive, we were alive. Bucharest was fun, we were fun. It was such a damn crazy period for me.

This city has its own spirit. Nobody was able to destroy it over the years and instead, it was somehow absorbed by it. As a non resident of Bucharest, I think I manage to appreciate the Capital a little more than its inhabitants. They go through all the daily hassle. We...the foreigners, on the other hand, come here and either take advantage of the babilon inside these streets or we just marvel ourselfes on the layers of civilisation.
We are in the Balkans and you can see this all around the place. We are loud, we are dirty and we are crazy. Inbetween these images you get extraordinary individuals that make you hope that life can be different in the future.
We never get to see the beauty within ourselves, we never get to see the detail in the fabric. But all around you get to see initiative, productive men and women that put desire and sacrifice in the same basket and bet it all on Bucharest. They bet it all on Romania. We still see conservatorism in our city Centre and we are looking for history there.
After 50 years of bloody cultural massacre we are desperate to get connected to our own roots, to our own history. And we want it transformed, we want it brought to our days, make it useful and fun.
This city is a hub of destinies. It gathers people all around the country for promises, for hopes and dreams. It's the city of cheap booze, beautiful ladies and bad taxi drivers. For 200$ you can have a great fuck in the city centre and a good night in the club too. The taxi though, may be a bit more :)
You can photograph here. There is so much content, so many things going on. It nevers stops and neither do I when I come around. My shutter goes clack! clack! clack! clack! clack! clack! 24/7
Buildings, people, stray dogs and cats, pigeons, crows and sea gulls. Sometimes some wild geese are stopping by on Dambovita, but they are like me: passing by and only enjoying the warmth of the city. And it is warm. Though you may not feel it Bucharest is welcoming and good, like a rough Popey the Sailor Man. You first have to get over its bad side, discover it and focus on it just to get that good old hug only a city you get to know can give.
