Bread and wine symbolize true love, wine symbolizes God's love for his people, wine represents the blood shed by Jesus Christ, and this blood was shed for love.

Who would give his son to save a whole humanity?

The bread represents the body of Christ, by eating the bread in the Lord's Supper, is to assume his will, make his way to live, think and act of Jesus Christ.

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me
Luke 22:19.

That blood symbolized by the wine in the Christian faith represents the forgiveness of our sins, drinking the wine in the Lord's supper means assuming that forgiveness.

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you
Luke 22:20.

The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

It seems a cruel story, but its essence is true love.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
