[CR] Breakfast of an rich Dutchman in middle Ages

Hello! Today I want to show you my new paintung of the food of the poor and rich people of the Middle Ages- "Breakfast of an rich Dutchman in middle Ages."
In this work I used gouache.

I depicted a bright red tulip, jug with an unusual handle, large red plum, onion, garlic and roll with poppy seed on a little platter.

Plum appeared in Europe in the XI century. At first it was the fruits of wild and semi-wild species, but already in the XIII century in Poland began to grow plums, worthy of the royal stomachs. In the gardens of France and Germany, plum spread in the 15th and 16th centuries.

In America, this fruit brought the first colonists.

In medieval Europe, bread and rolls were not only the basis of food, but were also part of the table setting- pieces of stale bread measuring about 15 cm by 10 cm were put on the table, which served as plates and could also absorb moisture. After eating, these pieces of bread gave away to the poor. Only in the XV century plates were made of wood and stopped using bread "plates".

It was believed that Garlic helps with headache and is an antidote with snake bites.
Those who could not afford a lot of rare and expensive components for the preparation of antidote, was recommended just eat raw garlic
This vegetable was considered a good remedy for the prevention of plague.

Representatives of the different classes used onion for cooking food . It was added to various sauces, broths and minced meat.
