The story is about the Sayuri Nitta whose real name is Chiyo Sakamoto, who is a geisha. Chiyo was born in a fishing village called Yoroido. Due to difficult circumstances, her father and Mr. Tanaka sold her and Satsu's older sister to okiya in Kyoto. Chiyo was sold into an okiya in Gion district, where she met pumpkin and a famous geisha Hatsumomo. She was turned into a servant in okiya and frequently bullied by Hatsumomo.
One day when entering Hatsumomo's room, Chiyo unknowingly gets discovered by her and she promises to tell Chiyo where her sister is if she doesn't go to her room and do all of her things. wrong. Once while doing errands, Chiyo stood by the bridge and cried but was fortunate to be helped by a strange man, the chairman, Ken Watanabe. Sayuri realized that if Nobu were to be a danna for her, her life's ambitions would be suppressed. So she asked Pumpkin to call Nobu to come and see her go to bed with the Minister, but instead Pumpkin called the Chairman because she knew Sayuri had feelings for him. Sayuri was desperate because her future seemed to have closed. But at the end of the film, the Chairman came to see her instead of Nobu. He told her why he had to cede her to Nobu and how he cared about her. The film ends with the kiss of President and Sayuri.
