Pencil drawing - The Abyss
Here is my pencil drawing of the sculpture The Abyss by Pietro Canonica, 1909. It was done on A5 paper and took me several hours to do. I used various pencils such as 4H, HB, 3B and 6B for darkest tones. I wanted to capture the smoothness of the sculpture so used a handmade blending stump using a pencil wrapped with paper and rubbing it against the tones in the drawing. It is quite a dark looking sculpture. I couldn't achieve the darkest tones so I used a fine liner pen to capture them..
