Why I choosed Ömer Emre Yavuz's Art to exhibit?

He is one of my artist friend in İstanbul Turkey. We gather few times a year. Also he is one of my educator when i was studying sculpture in M.S.G.S.Ü Sculpture Department. As a curator this is why my eyes and knowledge accept his art. Ofcourse also you will like his sculpting skills (technique, abstraction, composition, content) that i thought.

His works are mostly "Abstract Assemblage". He uses scrap metal in his sculptures. He also uses wood, stone and casting techniques in his projects.

Ömer Emre Yavuz by Burcu Pelvanoğlu (Art Historian)

When I wanted Ömer Emre Yavuz to talk about his statues,I fell into a trap! I was trapped, because Ömer wants his statues to talk for himself. This can be better understood when you concentrate more on his statues. Because his statues are structured on coincidences.As I have understood, he tries not to start with using a conspicious concept. He most often leaves himself to blend with the nature of material he is using. Ömer Emre Yavuz mostly prefers to use industrial material, scrap/old irons; he also tries to be as far away from breaking, twisting and hammering the metal as much as possible. He realises his forms intuitively by bringing together industrial materials and scrap/old irons, and tries to comply to the nature of the material. After this surprising production, forms signaling “the monstrosity of industry” come forth..Of course,it is an advantage to use scrap/iron metal for the artist. He can find a materials easily and can use them more efficiently,producing as fast as possible and if it comes true, if he himself can pass through this surprise production process.

Well what can be seen in the aftermath of this surprise production?! It can be true to use the term of ‘monstrosity of industry’ for Ömer’s these intuitive creations. In fact, when we look at his statues which are created with irons, industrial materials, we see that they are transformed into creatures and monsters. It is possible to interpret works 5, 9, 11, 12 and 13 in the exhibition in this context.

@bidesign's Selection:

You can see how he uses scrap metals in his works. He turns scrap metals to a fine "Abstract Assemblage" compositions by welding them.

He holds you at core of art by his technique. You can not decide it is scrap metal or a fantastic character shaped by them. It is pure creativity and fine art plasticity.
