[CR] Scotch Neat - Sketchbook Series #8

For my 8th installment in my sketchbook series ..

I present to you a glass of ‘Scotch Neat’! I have been tinkering with this digital creation for a while now. Some of you may remember, I posted a while back that I was starting this painting. Original Steemit Post I have been tinkering with it hear and there over the last 10 days or so. My biggest hang up with this piece, was the reflections on the glass. I would add some white and then not like the look. I erased it and it erased everything, so I would have to add color back again before attempting the reflection once more.. Ugggg.. Very frustrating. I cut myself a little slack though. Afterall, I am still very green at this form of art.

After The Painting Progressed ..

And I was starting to understand more about certain tools, like the blending tools, the overall look of the painting improved. I would say this style is impressionistic. An impressionistic view on a glass of scotch neat. For those of you who do not partake in whiskey, scotch or brandy, the term “Neat” is best described as .. Pouring the liquor straight from the bottle, into a glass with no ice or mixer (soda or other). Most of the time it is served at room temperature in a brandy or highball glass. For my painting, I chose a highball glass. The type I own and prefer when I am enjoying a drink at home.

Here Are A Few Progress Shots ..

They are not always glamorous, but you get the basic idea of how it progressed.

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.

I think it is great effort! The reflections are realistic...I can imagine the headache of the erase... restart... etc etc

Thanks! Yes. There is this learning curve to it. I have to learn a bit more about the layers feature. That’s going to be very helpful.

Well done and the touches of orange in the liquid and then on the surface really ties the piece down. Wonderful use of light on the reflective glass surface.

Thank you. That Reflective light was really giving me a run for my money. I really need to learn how to use the layers feature on this app reflective light was really giving me a run for my money. I really need to learn how to use the layers feature when creating these drawings or paintings. That would be very helpful I believe.
