Macro Photography Session | Matteuccia struthiopteris
Hi everyone
Back to another session of macro photography.
Ferns or Matteuccia struthiopteris...
Is the common name for many green and flowerless plants.
There are about 12,000 different species of ferns in the world, some of them emerged over 360 million years ago.
Ferns usually grow in humid rainforests, but also grow in other warm and humid places where there is plenty of shade.
This type of plant has its origin in eastern North America, Asia, Scandinavia, Alps and Germany and its flowering period in late July with its spores ripening around November as you can see from the logs I share today.
Matteucia comes from the name of an Italian physicist and physiologist, Carlo Matteucci, to whom these plants were dedicated.
Regarding the shoots,it's amazing how macros with their blurred background can result in such different images full of contrasts and textures especially with this kind of subjects.
In the world of photography, especially macro photography, there is a universe of things available to everyone, enabling totally different and original approaches.
For this session i used my mobile with this macro lens on the right corner of the picture:
Small, but you can get some cool results :P
Here you can see some of the previous macro photography sessions with a technique short description:

Here i present the technique used through a short visual tutorial:
Among the various possible techniques to shoot macros, this is perhaps the most affordable and effective technique for those who have a camera with removable lens.
We can simply remove the lens and reverse the direction, and by using an inverter ring it ends up being more comfortable and facilitates the process.
Let's move onto the result:
F-stop: f/2 | Exposure time: 1/1000 sec. | ISO speed: ISO 200
Black & White Version
F-stop: f/2 | Exposure time: 1/800 sec. | ISO speed: ISO 400
Black & White Version
F-stop: f/2 | Exposure time: 1/800 sec. | ISO speed: ISO 800
Black & White Version
F-stop: f/2 | Exposure time: 1/450 sec. | ISO speed: ISO 800
These photos weren't taken with a tripod, hence the unclear result.
