Watering The Nose?

in #ntopaz5 years ago (edited)

Never in my life would I have thought that I will enjoy pencil colors again. I started disliking them after a period in my schooling years simply because of the time it took to color a given area. Stroke after stroke after stroke, until my arms nearly fell out of the sockets lol. Then I was introduced to paint and well, forgot about pencil colors entirely.

I lost touch with the medium completely until few years ago when I was introduced to the watercolor pencils by staedtler which made me intrigued and suspicious. “That’s bull”, I thought to myself. How could pencil and watercolor be in the same sentence?

Little did I know that things were invented when I was ignorant and well it came back to bite me in the ass I have used them moderate amounts till now and have liked them but today I actually thought using their unique quality of blending in water and well... it definitely left an impression on me. Even though I chose a paper which doesn’t react well to water, I am still impressed by the softness achieved in the features.

Here I used a smaller brush to slowly test how the color and paper would react to wetness in the brush (only wetness and not drops of water). Initially one of the shades seemed like it did not like being pushed around with water and I was beginning to think that this wasn't gonna end well.

But once I did the shadows it blended so well and so smoothly that it looked like paint! After moments of careful strokes and adjustments of highlights (by dipping pencil into the water) it started looking quite good! You can see how bright the single stroke of white is after dipping. I am definitely trying another one immediately and will share the results tomorrow ❤️ Love.

Challenges like this will come to make you dislike something. Am glad you came back to embrace this medium. But could it be becsuse of the type of colored pencil?

Yeah I am pretty sure it was the “watercolor” quality of these pencils and the name that allured me to it. Otherwise I would have just kept them buried in my shelves hahah
