Let's talk about Adult Video 香港-日本-新加坡跨區文化挑戰/ HK-JP-SG cross-community challenge

As a biologist, there is nothing more interesting than keeping the species continuation, reproduction is always an important issue in biology. Yet for human, sexual intercourse is not limited for the reproductive purpose, but also served as a form of pleasure.

And let's be honest, pornography has always been a major industry world wide, even porn related tokens are growing with the blockchain technology (spankchain, bunny token etc)

Japanese porn has always play a role in the Asian market so here I will try to talk about the Japanese porn culture.

Japanese porn -- the AV

AV is the acronym for Adult Video, not hard to imagine from the words, literally refers to videos for adults. They originated as the pink video, during the times when VHS tapes are more available to the general public and house hold could afford those tape readers. Ever since then Japan has become one of the major Asian porn producer, along with the porn industry contributed over 60 billion USD worth of economical value. Despite the economical contribution, the AV is a clearly a form of male chauvinism, where females are being addressed as a form of entertainment for male's pleasure, this somehow resonated with the general perception of Japanese males taking up more dominating roles in the Japanese culture.

Populations who are engaged in the watching of AV, usually shows sexual affirmation and satisfaction, throughout the processes. In some cases, the AV also provided the early stepping stones into a child's early sex education. Especially in Asian cultures where sex is generally treated as a taboo and rarely being openly discussed among parents and children. Parents tends to rely on schools to educate their children, however, in a much more likelier scenarios is that children circulate AV among the boys.

AV star as career stepping stone?

Being an AV star actually gives a great opportunities for the actress to expose herself to a great population with wide age range, building a foundation for her to pave her way to become a mainstream celebrity. This some how attracted more wannabe girls to enter the industry, it was estimated over 10,000 girls attempted to enter the AV industry annually. With over 35,000 AV generated annually, along with the distribution in local Japan and internet "export", those AV actress can easily gain over millions of fan base.

Cultural Impact

• Language:
  Introductory to simple Japanese phrase such as: kimochi, sugoi, dame, yamete, motto, which are frequently used in HK comedies or daily life phrase.

• Memes:
  
  Scenes or scenarios are generally used as jokes on forums or as metaphors for discussions. The pool is probably one of the famous one.

• Anime/ gaming:
  Japanese AV extends their influence to anime, with frequent incorporation of under dress female characters, female characters with exaggerated figures, or frequent tearing of clothing.
  

• Female oriented AV
  The market no longer limits the AV to be male demand driven, female oriented AV are also now available to address the female's need. Addressing more relationship/ love, than the pure "action" of the intercourse.
  

Concluding remarks

Watching porn is not something that we should be too ashamed of, as long as you are not disturbing anyone, I believe everyone has their right to do so as this is just like bring out their fantasy, as long as they has a clear distinguish between the boundary between fantasy and reality.
