Now Playing Week 6: The Frames - What Happens When the Heart Just Stops
What is up, everyone! It is a new week and Tuesday is already here. Time for #nowplaying!
Recap
Last week I shared a rock opera piece about the computer game character Megaman. It was The Protomen with a song Breaking Out from their second album Act II: The Father of Death.
Hope you enjoyed that, but if you missed it, here are the youtube and Spotify links at your convenience:
And if you want to learn a bit more about The Protomen, check out my last week’s post:

As it is, the song I shared also made it in the #nowplaying week 5 Spotify playlist.

This week I give you one of my all-time favourite Irish bands: The Frames.
Here is my song of #nowplaying week 6:
The Frames - What Happens When the Heart Just Stops
Album: For the Birds
Released: 2001
Genres: Rock
The song, as presented by the lead singer Glen Hansard in their concerts, is about that moment in a relationship when you feel all those wrong things that eventually lead to a disaster, when you want to ask the questions that stem from jealousy and suspicion. You feel so bad about it that you just want to stop feeling all that. And then, you get your wish granted. You stop caring. And basically, your heart just stops while you keep on living your mundane life where everything is “ok”.
To me, this song has a bit different meaning, a different angle.
Your heart can only take so much sadness, regret and suffering. So what happens when the heart just stops? You become numb to all the emotions and you just keep going as if everything is “ok”. And yet, you still do feel everything, but just can’t bring yourself to develop the appropriate reaction anymore.
This one turned out a bit on the sad side, but you know - there are the good days and the bad days.
Here’s to another week of musical discovery!
Cheers!
Thanks for entering this week's #nowplaying!
