Coastal landscape on the western part of Bømlo

in #norway6 years ago

On mountain shelves west of Bømlo just off the North Sea, it often grows strong and healthy plants that can withstand a sea splash.

On the first picture, you can see several species sturdy plants in a beautiful coastal landscape.

Between these are the beautiful sea pink (Armeria maritima) and Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea). Rhodiola is down at the left side of the picture. It is also known as Golden root or Arctic root. Rhodiola has succulent leaves.
However, it is the root of this plant that is most interesting since it helps the body to withstand stress. Plants that have this property are often called adaptogens. In health stores, one can buy pills of active substances from Rhodiola to help with various ailments. When searching the internet, one can find out more in detail about what illnesses this plant can help.

The yellow lichen (Xanthoria parietina) often covers large surfaces of such mountain shelves towards the sea. They thrive in the same environment as sea pink. In this picture, they are displayed together.
It is hard to believe that a beautiful flower plant could grow in places likes this. The reason for Sea Pink can grow on mountain shelves is that this plant has a half-foot pole root that penetrates into the rock.

The two next photos show yellow lichen and how they colour the mountainside. Another name for this yellow lichen is, Maritime Sunburst Lichen.

The last photo shows the beautiful Sea Pink towards a darker rock. Here we also see a white-coloured lichen, but I'm not so knowledgeable that I can determine the name of the species.
Are there any readers who know the name of this lichen?

What a beautiful landscape.

I would be there in 5 years

Nice to hear that you like the landscape in the western part of Bømlo @Joeypark

It's very beautiful, dear @Siggjo
I've never seen such a beautiful colorful lichen.

In my opinion, on your photos scale lichens (calciopoli).
They form a crust similar to scale.

Although it is possible that it is Lecanora albella

Can have a very different color, and completely covering the subject
of the landscape, change its appearance.

The result is such a beautiful bright picture, as if some artist sometimes poured on the rocks bright colors :-)

Thank you very much for your bright photos and
interesting description of these new plants for me.

Thank you for your suggestion as to which lichen it may be in the photo @Singa
I appreciate your comments about my pictures and the accompanying written text.
Thanks for the attached picture of scale lichen.

I would be glad if I guessed their name )
In our country, such lichens are very difficult to detect.

Thank you for the beautiful photos, I considered them in
detail very beautiful and impressive look on the rocks and stones.
