Lost Hut Bar in Chiang Mai - a standard bar in an unusual street

in #nightlife5 years ago

I say the bar is standard because there isn't really anything particularly special about it. It is actually a bit run down. However, the street and location is very cool because there is virtually no street traffic despite the fact that the major highway for downtown is nearly within sight of it.

The area is unusual and this makes it a pretty cool spot to go to. There is virtually no traffic here because the winding alleyways in some parts of the city center are not conducive to car travel. I don't know if this was intentional but it is a welcome respite from the normal vehicle filled noisy streets of the downtown areas.

a car could fit down here, but it would be very problematic if they were to encounter really anything

Back where Lost Hut and a handful of other bars and restaurants are located you can always find a bunch of pedestrians and people sitting around at these mostly outdoors establishments.

Lost Hut has kind of a jungle ambiance to it and that feels kind of nice considering that downtown Chiang Mai is nearly completely devoid of any sort of plant and animal life (I think they went overboard with the tree elimination but it's too late!) and I found the place to overall be quite relaxing. The music is kept at a nice volume meaning that it is possible to talk to all your pals no problem.

I wouldn't exactly call this place nice though, it is, like many of these cheap downtown bars, extremely run down and the bathroom is pretty scary and you can expect insect visitors while you are in there (I think one of the leaders of the cockroach community was in there with me.) However, you can't be too fussy about this sort of thing in the downtown area since all of the buildings are a hundred years old or something.

Overall, I wouldn't really go out of my way to visit Lost Hut, but the quiet little street (Moon Muang Road 1) that it is located on is definitely worth a visit - you can make your own choice about which establishment to go to once you are there but since Lost Hut does such a good job with their outdoor decoration - i would be willing to bet that most people would choose it anyway.

It is true kerb appeal will draw traffic to the bar automatically. The use of plants and trees giving it something others don't have will make them stand out. As you said it isn't a high traffic venue so most people who go there most likely know the area.

Nice write up! That is too bad that the place isn't that well kept up. I like the outdoor seating areas that a lot of these places you have been reviewing have. I guess it only makes sense given the climate. I guess I hadn't thought about the bathrooms in these places which is weird because that is usually a huge deal to me. The ambiance does seem pretty cool!

I bet it has awesome vibes and a chill atmosphere. Sometimes dive bars are the most fun to drink at!
