The Ibadan Experience

in #nigeria8 years ago (edited)

I always look forward to steemit meetups because it's one of the best media to learn, communicate and connect with with people on the steem blockchain and this is the first I'm attending outside my community @steemit-uyo.

THE JOURNEY

Hmmmmmm
I'm used to long road trip, been doing that for 5years now, basically between uyo and Lagos so Lagos to Ibadan didn't seem like a big deal to me

I went to the park at berger, waited for about 45minutes for the bus to get filled up with passengers, i picked the front seat basically because I wanted first hand front view of the road and also just enjoy the adventure

So the trip started and then we were on Lagos-Ibadan express way, where a couple of drivers were reckless and i was seriously looking forward to be done with the episode, it was scary actually watching drivers of big trucks misbehaving and disobeying basic traffic safety precautions....

We moved on to Ogun State and we were stuck for a while because two trucks collided, another part of the trip that scared me was that there were too many big trucks on the road. They were like hurdles and for everyone one you pass through, there's another one waiting for you.
I'm personally scared of big trucks and this has just made it so difficult for me to learn how to drive, i hope I get over it before the year runs out and please I'll appreciate a little help

Finally we arrived oyo state.....
The land of red sand and red zink, i was actually welcomed by slight traffic and another language

ON ARRIVAL

So on arrival, i still had to locate the venue for the meetup and thanks to my Yoruba Language speaking skills, communicating wasn't difficult and as such, i got help fast and then i was able to locate the venue
Cabs and motorcycles is predominantly used as a means of transportation in OYO

THE MEETUP

It was actually wonderful, the turn up was massive, i saw @nairadaddy @destinysaid @gbenga @tojukaka @japfive @ @fisteganos @emmedee @ewuoso again and they looked better than the last time i saw them.
I also met @lovejunkie, @gee1 @adore-eu the clinic receptionist,@mimy of ndjt @Olawalium my steemit cuz for the first time
I also made new friends, this is not the part I'm too good at but i tried, @hollacute @bania @aerick @yowanetwork @lizbethk @michaelcj
It was wonderful getting to meet these amazing

LEARNING

I'll just a a summary of the few things I learnt from different people, first of all I'll start with @ejemai, this is actually not my first time hearing him speak but there's always something new to learn from him, he didn't speak much, he only emphasized the need to love and be selfless. Whatever seems difficult to achieve can be made possible when you put love out first, let everything you do be centered around love

@thelovejunkie doesn't just connect to me in writing, she did so in speech and according to her, you can succeed anywhere given that you are patient, diligent and consistent

@gbenga talked about steem abuse and when he got to the part where he was talking about reasons why you shouldn't flag, it reminded me about a time i was angry at some one and wished i had the power to flag. I'm glad that's all gone now, i still flag though, on whatsapp using the emoji....lol
@ehiboss thanks for those security tips, I'll add them to what i have already done. Please if your account was logged out without your understanding, be careful before you login again, don't be in a haste, it might be a security threat
@destinysaid talked about other apps that have been built on the steem blockchain to help you earn just in case writing isn't your thing, there's dtube for videos, zappl for tweet-like contents, busy, dlive, dsound for voice contents etc dsound is next on the list for me....
For the first time, I understood what witnessing actually meant and the benefits of voting for w witness, thanks to @tojukaka.

FOOD

I was treated to the delight of the legendary yoruba pepper.
It was actually interesting to be far away from afang and edikangikong to be assisted by eforiro and gbegiri....
My stomach is yet to react, i know it wouldn't anyway but i totally enjoyed the food.

JOURNEY BACK

I left earlier today and the journey was shorter with lesser traffic and big trucks to deal with, and i didn't take the front seat again, i don't like what i hate

GALLERY

I'm was actually tired and camera shy, so i didn't take many selfies but enjoy these ones photographed by @kekegist
